I've started studying more for the DAT and I find the angle ranking, hole punching, and cube counting/pattern folding fairly easy, but am having much difficulty with the top-front-end and keyholes. How do I approach these problems? Should I be looking for something?

I am not the best person to get advice from this, but I would look at the picture and just outline it mentally. I just started PAT two days ago.. and my exam is in 2 weeks.

I used to have a lot of trouble with PAT. I just couldn't understand it. But honestly, the key to understanding it and doing well is practice. Practice it as much as you can, and you'll start to get the hang of it sooner than you think. If you don't already have Crack DAT PAT, I strongly recommend it. It helped me tremendously. I average a 22 on CDP, and have scored up to a 25. Once you get the hang of it, move on to DAT Bootcamp. Their PAT is tougher, but will make you even more prepared for the real DAT. Oh and for TFE.. Don't depend on the line-counting method. The best way to get these is by just visualizing the object. You really will get better with practice. Can't stress that enough. Good luck!

Best advice I have is to focus on one specific part of the question. For the TFE section, look at a unique line (you'll get better at this with practice), and compare it to the other image shown. Then, from those two images, figure out how it'd look in the answer choices. Eliminate answer choices that don't match. Rinse and repeat until you find the answer. My problem with PAT was that I would focus on the entire thing, which is practically impossible. You have to build your skills to focus in on one area and compare that to the answer choices.

^ THIS.

This has been the single greatest thing in improving my PAT.

I went from 17-18 in bootcamp to a 23 in a matter of days with practice. It's the greatest advice for TFE/ Keyholes. I used to spend upwards of 2 minutes on keyholes and TFE trying to visualize the entire thing. Instead, I could have been eliminating answer choices very quickly.

Thanks Ari! 👍
