I just can't seem to get more than 4 questions right in T F E part of PAT. PAT is the reason I am taking my DAT but I am doing just as bad this time. Is there any strategies I can use other than 3D picture. If there are strategies please let me know and where can I find it. Thanks for your help.

Have you been using the event counting method? It’s where you count stuff like plane and angle changes that would make solid or dotted lines on corresponding views from the two provided views. Then you just count them up on the answers given and most of the time you can eliminate half the choices.

i'm also having trouble with this section of the dat, i think it's the hardest part!

i did not even know that there were any kinds of methods for these kinds of problems in the first place, i tried to find an old thread with pat tips and tricks, but couldn't find anything useful, i may start one
 
Use the orthographic method that engineers use. Draw the two images as they appear on the screen (this takes a few minuites so dont do it on the real DAT!!! its good to study with though).

1. Draw a coordinate plane (x,y)
2. The top image foes in the top left corner, front in bottom left like on screen
3. Draw a line in the top right corner bisecting the angle at 0,0 creating two 45 degree angles.
4. Now starting with the top view image, draw lines from each point of the image to the bissecting line, and then draw a line striaght down into the box where the side view should view.
5. Do the same line drawing with the fonr view but just draw the lines to the right. Where they intersect with the lines from the top view, that is your projection

Hope it helps...Its probably hard to understand from my description. earch for it on google, maybe someone will have pictures of it online!
 
Barron's describes how to use the event counting that cowsgomoo is speaking of. I also find it helpfull to look at a unique feature in the two views given. Use a box on top of a box for example. From the top view you can see the dimensions and position of the top box to eliminate choices, and from the front or end view you can get the depth to eliminate choices. The more you practice, the better you will be at putting the info from the given views together to eliminate choices.

I was looking at a book called "Design Drawing" by Ching at Barnes and Noble that illustrates that method and other ways of creating architectural drawings. It might be useful to look at a book like that for awhile.

That's an interesting method wish I knew it when I took the DAT. 👍 👍
 
Thank you all. This is a big help. I have been trying the event counting method and have been succesful lil bit. I am practicing PAT 5 hours a Day 😉 . Thanks again.

where do u find all the practice material to study PAT 5 hours a day? I need to do some more practice on PAT as well but there just aren't too much practice material out there. i have kaplan, topscore, barron's and DAT achiever. Are you just doing tests over and over?

YUP. i also have kaplan tests material of classroom but for PAT is not that good. I think practising is the ey. Wish me luck.

I got confused at step 4, so I looked in up online. It is known as third angle orthographic drawing.
