1. For people's opinions on what the top programs are, do a search as this has been discussed numerous times ad nauseum.

2. Nobody knows what the average boards scores are, but they are high. For very top programs, they are disgustingly high, something like 250-255 and above. The number is less for lesser programs. The range, however, is relatively wide. In my program, we've seen anything from 230s to 280s. This does not mean that people with scores less than these don't get into radiology, because they do. The overall application matters a lot, but unfortunately you can't be below a certain cutoff range and have a decent chance. Like everything else, there are exceptions.

3. I don't know anything about the New Orleans programs. Dr. Cuts, any thoughts?

I trained at one of the best residencies in the country, and probably the richest radiology department in the world.

Having said that, I do not think my training was any better than my old med school roomie who trained at a state university. In fact, he is faster and more efficient than many of my "academic elite" former collegues (and probably me too).

If you are heading towards research, then print out a list of NIH funding and try to go to one of the top ones. Otherwise, go where you will have fun and make good friends. Training will rest a lot in your own hands. Later.
