I was wondering (and looking for hope) if anyone has heard of or had good experiences interviewing late and getting accepted to top schools? I've still got a TON of schools to hear back from, and am starting to get antsy. (YES, I KNOW its still relatively early for that so please spare those posts).

well, i don't know how you define top schools, but my friend interviewed at tufts in late jan and was accepted two weeks later.

When I was at Columbia the head of one of the student organizations (M2) was offered an interview for the LAST day of interviewing at Columbia in Feb. They were accepted (outright! no waitlist!) a couple of weeks later when decisions were sent out in March. I also met another girl at Cornell with pretty much the same story. There is hope.

When I say top school, I mean around the top 10. I'm just curious, as the waiting game is awful, and at least if someone has had it pay off than maybe I can too.

I know harvard, yale, stanford all dont give acceptances until way late, so i would assume the time you interview has much less importance than may other 'non-top' rolling schools

I was wondering when someone was going to mention this. Trust me, I know most people would be thrilled to be in my shoes right now. I'm just curious and greedy.

no offense, BW, because i'm a BW booster, but you ARE getting a bit greedy. Your GPA is not going to get you an interview at a top 10, no matter what your MCAT. i hope i'm wrong, but doubt it.

you certainly are not in a position to OP a thread on this topic.

just keepin it real.

You know there are people who told me I wouldn't get in ANYWHERE, no matter what I did because of my GPA? Well, that proved to be incorrect.

I've worked too hard trying to pull myself out of my GPA pit to not try and aim for the higest places. Someone once told me, "never settle," and I think its one of the best pieces of advice I've ever gotten.

Whats the worst thing that happens with trying to get into a top school? I don't get in and I'm in the exact same position I am now.

As for not being in a postition to OP this thread... well... I am, and I did.

hey, you put yourself out there, you had to expect someone to come back with that response. optimism is great, but you have to be realistic. not going to happen at top 10 for you BW. why waste your yearning on that? focus more middle tier. frankly, even with 3.8/40, no one should hope much beyond middle tier. anything better should be a happy surprise.

I love it when people ask for advice & then when it's not what they want to hear they start tearing down the naysayers. You are extraordinarily lucky to have gotten into med school with a sub-3.0 GPA. You must have hidden your sense of entitlement well during your interviews.

Sense of entitlement? You are clearly blind to the fact that there is something beyond 4 years of premed and then direct to med school. You can't sum people up in one number, and there is a lot more to me than my undergrad GPA, as there is with any candidate.

Read my question above and you will see that I was not asking about MY chances of a top tier interview.

MDRus, lets not kid ourselves. I'm not so niave as to think that I have a GOOD shot at a top 10 school, and I agree with what you said... who really does? On the other hand, had I not put in an application, then what chance would I have?

I think many people here confuse optimisum with niavity, which is very unfortunate.

hey you know you might be greedy but med school is a big investment and you have the right to be picky with where you want to invest.

you are just begging me to be outright cruel to you which i refuse to do. you are right, it is unfortunate when people are naive. we agree.

By all means, share with us your words of wisdom.

I'm not playing this game anymore. Dude, you're 25!!?? Why do you need my approval?

Bottom Line: You better go check your email to see if Harvard and Cornell want to meet you.

You seem (or so i thought) like a cool guy. I remember how happy you were when you were accepted and I felt really happy for you. More than any other stranger that I have read about on SDN, actually. Your joy was contagious and real.

Anyway, best of luck. This process is a bitch for us all.

Eugh, I hate this kind of crap... Arguing on a forum and bashing one another is probably the lamest thing anyone can do. (myself included in this fine group)

I am curious though, what were you thinking?

i'm trying to end this on a vaguely friendly note. We are all in the same boat, after all.

I don't even know what you are asking me?

I actually posted that as you were writing your reply. Its funny we both got the same idea at the same time. The only reason I was even arguing with you is because it was more interesting than watching bubbles pop in the siloxane monomer I'm currently degassing.

Believe me, I am still VERY VERY happy with my acceptances, and am not truly getting greedy. I'm just dreaming.

i feel ya op. It feels wonderful to be accepted and know that you are going to be a doctor for sure, but when you have 15+ apps still out there, whats wrong with wondering and hoping? why would you do anything else? who would hope for failure?

Who are you, exactly, to tell people what they are and aren't allowed to post? He's a member of SDN, and therefore has a right to ask a question; whether or not you think it's a valid question is really irrelevant.

To the OP: most top 10 schools do not have rolling admissions, which means that they make final decisions on who to accept after they have conducted all of their interviews. Therefore, at these non-rolling schools, interviewing late is not to your disadvantage.

awhhh... it is nice!

SDN would be so much less entertaining if but for the sniveling, guilt trips, back biting, jealousy, and outright neurosis of the posters.

To the OP, since SDN has already proven to be a bastion of bad information in your case, why keep coming to the well?

If you've sent your stuff in, there is nothing to do but wait.

If you have not, let it rip. Why not? What is the worst that can happen? You lose a few buck and get told no.

frankly, even with 3.8/40, no one should hope much beyond middle tier. anything better should be a happy surprise.

There is a difference between expecting and hoping. I don't expect to get into a top ten school, but I hope to get in and I am doing everything in my power to make it happen.

BW, 'they' said you couldn't post this thread... but you did it anyway!

'They' said you couldn't get into medical school... but you did it anyway!

'They' say you can't get into a top ten... well, no matter what happens, two for three isn't bad.
