Warning! School X is about to plummet rapidly in the USNWR ratings and be physically picked up and wisked away offshore due to (you pick one: its president leaving, a disgruntled student filing a lawsuit, an affiliated institution parting ways, a new, untried, unproved curriculum that will probably make everyone fail their boards and be unable to match into a residency). AVOID THIS SCHOOL AT ALL COSTS!!!!
 
Despite all advice to the contrary, I applied to a school I did not want to attend and got in. I deserve much better, but I didn't get in this year because ___________. Should I turn down my acceptance and reapply?

I didn't get into any California schools this year, but I really can't leave California. Should I turn down my acceptance and reapply? (And of course, not to any of those nasty DO schools- my desperate need to be with {insert some kind of family obligation here} isn't so desperate that I'd go DO)

(Again, more common in the premed forums.) Such threads bug me not because the underlying issues are irrelevant--I'm pro-equal opportunity and will learn alongside anyone, anywhere, anytime--but because the ASKING of the question on SDN is pointless! Really, what are you going to do if the consensus (which is rarely crystal-clear in these questions anyway) of your fellow applicants/students is that, yes, it WILL hurt you--not bother going through with the application process?! Sheesh! To paraphrase another SDNer, in the time it took you to post that question and anxiously follow people's responses, you could have studied and raised your MCAT score a point or two.....which, in the end, will undoubtedly help your chances...
 
1. Should I go to a school with P/F vs. H/P/F vs. H/HP/P/F vs. A/B/C/D/F ?
2. PBL v. lecture?
3. Columbia v. Cornell? (or any X vs. Y school questions and/or polls, including the scholarship ones a la "Should I go Harvard Med or Harvard Med with a full ride?)

-You cant forget the infamous "you are going to be a bad doctor" argument.
-Specialty X will be obsolete in the future because Y mid level is taking over.
-How much does X specialty get paid.

Does it matter where you went to undergrad? (and questions along the line of; "which is better-a 4.0 from a state school or a 3.5 from MIT?")

Would you be a doctor if they only made [insert unreasonably low salary]/year?

The above threads wouldnt be so bad if they didnt immediately turn into holier-than-thou debates where someone eventually says that they would go through all the crap it takes to become a doctor as long as they will be rewarded with food, clothing, and basic shelter. Please.
 
The threads also wouldn't be so bad if people weren't too lazy to do a search on the forum. You would think with high stats these people are more on the ball about things.
 
Any thread where someone uses the word "MCATs". It's MCAT, not plural.

Well, to be fair, the search function in vBulletin is almost completely worthless. I do wish they had a FAQ for these things, and that they would close most of the above types of threads when they resurfaced.

Yes - That strangely seems to be the most recent trend -- threads that say -- "I have a 3.1 GPA. Assuming I get a 35-37 on my MCAT, what are my chances?"

I didn't get into med school on my first try! Should i (melodramatically) WASTE a year of my life doing research/moaning and avoiding taking advantage of travel opportunities/work/writing an opera/getting a hobby or go ahead and commit ritual Hari Kari right now?

LOL...best thread ever, someone had to say it brainsucker, I personally love the relationship advice threads, check out the current pre-allo thread "am i overreacting,"...someone's boyfriend makes fun of her being premed via quotes from Anton Chekhov's books, and she wants to know what she should do...I first came to SDN looking for useful advice and tips, but I stayed because I find some of these threads funnier than Seinfeld, honestly we get crazier people than Jerry Springer...their only commonality is a shared interest in the health sciences field :laugh:
