Fortunately, I've got two options on what to do this summer between first and second year. I know many threads say to relax and enjoy since its the last summer, but I definitely want to do something outside of school since I haven't been involved in much during my first year so far.
One faculty member is willing to mentor me through a case report(s) and literature review in a field of interest. Since I heard case reports don't take too long, I was going to lightly study for boards by reviewing first year stuff and watching sketchymicro.
The second option was doing research in a non-medically related field. It was about healthcare education and the PI would guide me throughout the whole research process, including getting IRB and writing papers. The PI said we'd try to get presentations and/or publications and the person has a proven record of guiding students to achieve those accomplishments. This would be full-time (and paid!!!) and I would try to lightly study on the side whenever I wouldn't feel too tired to.
I'm genuinely interested in both. Case reports sound super interesting and would be a chiller summer, but doing research and getting published add a little more to my CV. Any advice would be helpful please! Thanks!
