Been on the boards for a long time under a different name 😳 , but I really can't decide on my top 5. They keep cycling back and forth (like 5x a day) and I guess that I'll take it to the house for your opinions. I personally will want to do fellowship afterwards, and more likely than not academics.

Thanks for your votes/thoughts! 🙂

ZERO need to be in any specific location, I'm free like a bird.

Really having a tough time btw Vandy and Carolinas, as well as Mich, and I loved Wake, oh man this is really really tough 😕 !

Thanks for all the responses. I've been like many of you and have bounced my ROL around multiple times. 🙂

I'm a bit surprised by Denver as when I interviewed there it was okay, nothing spectacular, and with the loss of 4 faculty members in the next 1-2 years I was a little shy about having it top 3, but maybe I'll reconsider.

Any specific reasons people are choosing Carolinas over Vandy? I liked them both a lot, but have absolutely no clue as to benefits of both cities.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

Didn't know about Denver, liked the program, new director seemed cool, great reputation, and if you want to practice out west seems to have a good network. The only thing I was apprehensive about was their relatively low amt of electives. For a 4 yr program it seemed on the short side. Other than that I really like it, and my brother is there (Rads resident).

I really enjoyed my interview there and the residents seemed very happy, skiing is close, and overall Denver is a cool place!

Can't help you w/CMC and Vanderbilt as I liked them both and plan on having them high as well. We may end up being interns together, good luck w/your choices.

Yeah I think both are great programs.. you cant go wrong either way.

Thanks for the responses. TysonCook, from your other post I see that you did an away at MGH, what are your thoughts on that program, and specifically residents being happy, as well as trauma (seems that BMC gets all the trauma)?

Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post that info.
Thanks

Anyone have thoughts on Michigan? I really liked it there, but nobody really has posted any thoughts on it?

I did do an away rotation at HAEMR MGH and I really liked it. I thought that the residents seemed happy and they didn't appear to be overworked.

The only major concern I had about the MGH program (and someone can correct me that is from Boston), is that the cost of living is so incredibly high. I'm originally from Utah, live in Cincinnnati, and I couldn't believe the prices for condos/houses and even apartments! If anyone could expound apon the ability of residents to live in Boston, I'd be appreciative as well 🙂 . It seemed almost impossible for one to buy a house/condo, which is what I'm looking at doing.

As far as Trauma, they didn't seem to get too much of it, but still enough to get good training (how much do you really want to see?) I think that the Knife and Gun Club for Boston is located more south than MGH/BW. Hopes this helps.

Wow...something I can answer. I believe that a majority of the knife/gun trauma in Boston goes to Boston City Hospital (which actually calls itself "Boston's safety net" or something along those lines) which is folded into BUMC's educational system now.

Socute, any thoughts on the cost of living in Boston? Is it realistic to live there on a residents salary, somewhere near MGH/BW? Or is it going to be an apartment for another 4 years of my life. 🙁

think KA-CHING. although, depends on where you were living before. Think NYC or west coast pricing is about equivalent.

Go to realtor.com and you can do a search based on zip code.. Should give you an idea of where you can live depending on what you can afford..
