I received an email from Touro the other day stating:

"Thank you again for your application to Touro College’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. After reviewing your application, the admissions committee is requiring that you retake the GRE in order to make your application more competitive even though your GRE score exceeds our posted minimum. Please update the office of admissions as soon as a new GRE score report is available (school code: 7595).
Your application will only be considered further once we receive the new official GRE score report from PTCAS using the code listed above. Keep in mind that the Touro DPT program admits students on a rolling basis and may fill prior to posted deadline dates. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this information."

I was a little shocked that they would REQUIRE me to spend the time and money to retake the GRE, and would only consider my application if I did so. Has anyone else received this email? It seems like a lot to ask, especially for a school that has lower standards. Any advice on how to handle this without taking the exam?

FYI: my scores were 155, 151, 3.5

That is so strange. If they didn't already find you competitive enough, why wouldn't they just deny you straightaway? Do they not have enough applicants or something?

It seems to me like a way to weed people out...but it's still so strange because my scores were decent!

It might also be possible that they have too many applicants within the same range and need a "tie-breaker", if you will. It's still hard to believe that they're asking this of people, though. The GRE is not something one can just re-take on a whim. Are you dead set on this school? Did you reply to them yet?

I have not replied to them yet, but they are not exactly my top choice. However, I wouldn't want them to not consider me because of this

That’s ridiculous
I applied to Touro Nevada, my scores are 157, 151, 3.5. Similar to yours.

I highly doubt I would go through the process of studying, paying for, and taking the Gre again for them if they told me this. That’s really weird.

This seems simular to what I got from Arcadia. I had a different issue and they told me that my verbal is one point below their review guidelines and if i dont retake it my app is not going to be considered aaaand that gre is strong predictor of how well i m gonna do at their program- which is complete bs- the only thing gre shows s how well u understand their idiotic system. My verbal waz 150 btw. I am already accepted to a different school- so I dont care much per se. But still- the whole gre thing is aggrevating... I can be an awesome doctor w out knowing how "this sentence relates to the whole paragraph about vulcanic ores in salvadore" ))))

I received the same email and when I emailed them back about it, they were pretty rude with their response. They shouldn't be asking their applicants to retake the GRE, if they aren't satisfied then it should just be a denial instead of making us waste $200 with no guarantee that we would be accepted after retaking it. Made me lose interest in their program completely.

Wow that sounds like a lot of BS! I would only re take it if it's a school I really want to go to, I haven't been accepted anywhere else, or I was guaranteed an admission if I improve the score.

Touro sent me an email yesterday, any insight on what "evaluated" means or does everyone get this?

You should just take your name out of the application process for this institution. The fact that they’re asking you to retake an expensive test that doesn’t predict graduate success is embarsssing. What if you retake it and get denied? Will they refund you? (Obviously they won’t). School seems shady.

I received the same email over a month ago and haven't heard back since

Can anyone tell me if this is after the supplemental application or the initial application? I don’t want to spend any more money than I have to. My scores are 150v 151q 3.0 and i received this

Thank you for your interest in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Touro University Nevada (TUN). Your application has successfully passed initial review and we invite you to now complete the Supplement Admissions Application. Please read this entire letter, as there are specific instructions for completing this next step in the application process.

Initial app. You're in the clear. Good luck!

What is the difference between a supplemental application and initial application??

Thats what I ended up doing, and I'm glad I didn't waste my time or money. I was accepted into University of St. Augustine in Miami and I start in January!!

Not BS. There is one decently done study that examines predictors for passing NPTE. Verbal GRE was the best predictor I believe. Verbal GRE is pretty important to understand how you appraise language, which is pretty important for any graduate program or profession. I know my school looks at it pretty closely and we think it is a good metric.
