Hello all,

I hope this is the right place for this question

I have been accepted into the masters program for both the touro Harlem campus and Bluefield vcom online masters program

Both masters are remote.

Touro Harlem seems to have a guaranteed acceptance for students with a gpa of 3.5 or higher but I have read that this is based on a curve so only a small percentage of students matriculate the following year.

Vcom Omabs offers a guaranteed interview conditional to a 3.5 gpa but seems that a majority of students who get that gpa are accepted into one of the vcom campuses.

I wanted to see if anyone had any further info on either of the programs or any advice on making the decision on which program to do.

I appreciate any and all feedback!

Thanks

I did the Touro Harlem masters. Very cut throat and it will consume your life. Exam schedule is stressful (had 3 exams in a 7 day span), but usually 1-2 a week. There is not much faculty support either.

80 something people in the class, about 30 made it. All based off a bell curve. There were many times where no one got an A on an exam because the exam average was higher and the standard deviation was large.

Does VCOM offer a spot in their master's if you apply to the med school and dont have a competitive enough application to get in, in that cycle?
I believe LECOM does that. Also, how difficult/intense is VCOM's master's compared to LECOM, Liberty's, or Arkansas-COM?

I believe you have to apply to both the masters and the med school separately which is what I did. I entered the masters and and eventually got my interview after meeting the benchmarks and currently attend VCOM. The VCOM masters program is like any SMP, it is very hard and will take up all your time. If you are working you wont do well so you need to take it very seriously. It contains a lot of the material you will see in medical school once you attend and I'm so happy I did it. Many of my classmates struggle with the hard courses like immunology or microbiology but its literally just review for me and I get an A every time. Unless someone has done multiple SMPs it would be hard to say how each of them compare to one another but you can assume they are all very hard and time consuming.

I was in the VCOM OMABS program and can say we had about 1-2 exams every week (usually 1 a week). There are 6 blocks in the program where you take 2 classes per block (that last about 8 weeks). The online program is close to a year long while the in person one is about 9 months long. It is hard and fast paced but will prepare you for medical school very well. Some of the lectures are literally the exact same slides you will see when you are in medical school. Block 1 has been a breeze for me so far since its literally just review from the program. Many students struggle in the hard courses but likely I previously stated those hard courses are simply just review for you. There was a handful of people that dropped out of the program in the first couple of months but after that, I'm pretty sure everyone else stuck around to graduate. If you meet the benchmarks you are guaranteed an interview, and if you prepare for your interview you are guaranteed a spot. The very few people that get rejected are the ones that raised very serious red flags or didn't take the interview seriously. In the case where you are rejected, they do very very well getting you accepted into other schools (their connections are truly amazing).
