I was wonderingif anyone knows the difference between the campuses. They are both about the same difference time-wise from me but Manhattan would be by subway and Bayshore would be driving. I don't know which I should choose, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've been told by an admission rep that Bayshore is less competitive to get into, if that's of any concern. They have slightly different schedules for days they meet, but I can't remember which is which. Other than that, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this, Bayshore has a cadaver lab, while Manhattan uses a virtual replacement.

the manhattan campus does not do cadaver labs since the school is highly religious (orthodox jewish) and many students that attend are also jewish. just a FYI if you are interested in laboratory work

The Bay Shore campus does cadaver dissection, so I don't think it's because of religious reasons, but the lack of a lab at Manhattan campus is definitely something to keep in mind.

OP, this is directly from their FAQ on their website (http://www1.touro.edu/shs/pt/?disp=faq):

16.When are classes scheduled?
Classes at the Bay Shore campus are scheduled Mondays through Thursdays from approximately 9am to 5pm. Occasionally there are evening classes scheduled. Friday classes are typically scheduled from 9am to 12noon. However, there are many semesters without Friday classes. Classes at the Manhattan campus are scheduled Sundays through Thursdays from approximately 9am to 5pm. Occasionally there are evening classes scheduled. Not all semesters have classes on Sundays.
17.What are other similarities and differences between the Long Island and Manhattan campuses?
The campuses follow essentially the same curriculum. Besides the scheduling of courses, the most significant difference is in the Anatomy course. At the Long Island campus, the laboratory portion of the Anatomy course entails cadaver dissection; at the Manhattan campus, the course utilizes mainly computer-assisted instruction supplemented with a few demonstrations in the Bay Shore cadaver lab.

I've heard of some people purposely choosing Touro Manhattan to avoid the Cadaver lab. IME, having the cadaver lab really helped me understand the biomechanics of PT movement. With that said, i've had one or two classmates who didn't perform too well in the lab but are still great PTs today. The former would be ideal though.

I went to a Manhattan info session and you are right about the Manhattan Campus not having a cadaver lab. You are also correct about the religious reasons but they honestly don't do cadaver dissections because of both reasons.

But one thing I didn't know prior to the info session is that the Manhattan class actually goes to the Bayshore cadaver lab 3 times during the first semester. They spend a whole day there and study the cadavers so technically the Manhattan class will have multiple opportunities to be exposed to a cadaver. You guys are also correct about Bayshore being less competitive to get into due to the majority of applicants wanting to be in the NYC area in grad school. Thats the main reason why I decided to attend the Manhattan campus over the Bayshore campus starting next August. My advice would be to apply to both campuses if you can't make of your mind.

If you do that and they want to accept you, they usually just pick which campus they want you at. At the info session they explained they usually pick depending on where you live and also depending on how many open seats are left.

Good luck!!

It's too bad they don't let you apply to both and just designate a first choice and second choice. I feel like that'd be so much better and easier.

Agreed. Some schools let you choose a 1st and 2nd choice. Too bad not all schools (with multiple campi) do this.

I completely agree it kind of sucks if they put you into the one you weren't hoping for but at the end of the day I guess just be happy you got into a PT school.

Got accepted into the Manhattan campus but I'm hesitant on going. It's within commuting distance of my area and the tuition isn't so high.
However, I heard bad things about it on this forum, and there's a bunch of users writing to not go there, such as the whole "no cadavers" thing. I also found it kinda sketchy that I didn't even need to interview and I heard their law program is terrible was involved in some kind of corruption scandal. Probably doesn't mean that their PT program is bad but it might be something to look out for.

But anyways, even though this is kinda my safety school, I love NY, so I'm probably going there just because of that. Just need to find out if their program is good enough.

I felt the same way reading so many bad things about their program but I actually went to an info session and the place isn't all that bad. It may not appear to be a brand new state of the art facility but the professors I met seemed extremely knowledgable and really sweet. I actually got in touch with a first year that is in the program now and they gave me some insight to how the program is. I've also been accepted to the Manhattan Campus and I have decided on 100% attending. As for the cadavers, it may turn off some people but during the first semester the class actually travels to the bayshore campus a total of 3 times throughout the semester after studying certain sections of the body. They actually stood all day there studying the cadavers to supplement the online technology. Coming from having the opprotunity to have a cadaver lab in undergraduate anatomy, this really wasn't a deal breaker for me but for some it may be. Anyways if you are definitely going to attend, and have a Facebook I made a group for all the accepted students for the class of 2017 for the Manhattan campus. You are more than welcome to join! 🙂

Hey! How did you set up an info session with them?

They were jut having one for the semester. It was in the middle of October. I think they do it once a semester. It was on their upcoming events on their website and I just happened to see it so I figured it'd be smart to visit before I sent the deposit. The program is basically on one floor but from what I understand other PT programs in NYC are the same way. The building isn't super new but the faculty were very nice and provided a lot of information about the program.

Awesome thank you! I already sent in my deposit without seeing it because I go to school all the way in Florida so that's good to hear

That sounds like good news, thanks. I might get accepted into UMDNJ (I'm in commuting distance, the tuition is cheap, and I heard good things about the program) but I might actually go with Touro just because I like the NY area... yeah. But if I do get accepted into UMDNJ, should I just go to UMDNJ or go with Touro? And about the cadavers at Bay Shore, they visit 3 times through the semester, but how long are these trips? 3 trips doesn't seem to be like a lot. The lack of cadavers isn't a dealbreaker for me though.

Honestly I would go with the cheapest school that accepts you since it really doesn't matter what school you go to. And the one student who I got in touch with said they stayed there like from a 9-5 kinda thing. They said it was perfect because with the amount of other school work needed to be done, not having to spend hours in a lab dissecting seems like it would be too much. But definitely try for UMDNJ. I'm actually a Rutgers undergrad now so the change of scenery to NYC is more ideal for me.

Do not go to Touro Manhattan. I chose Touro because it was the least expensive of my options and it was the biggest mistake of my life. My class started with 34 people and in our 5th semester we are down to 26. They failed almost 25% of the class out by the end of 4th semester. With 1 exception, the staff could not care less about the students. Instead of helping you to succeed they try their hardest every semester to 'weed people out'. Everything is a disorganized mess, which makes succeeding that much harder and the quality of the education in most of the classes is terrible. No one gets the clinical placements they want and the professors are constantly leaving or being fired. Honestly the program is a complete scam. Please invest in a better program, you will not regret it.

Also the 3 days of cadaver lab are a joke. We only went twice for a couple hours each time and you can't learn anything in that amount of time. Good luck taking that anatomy final.
