It was great meeting all of you, and I hope that we all get in!

Those of you that left feeling like your interviewers weren't all that thrilled with meeting you (and I think you know who you are!), what the HELL was that? I wish I could have interviewed with another panel, because I'm feeling a little anxious about the interview. I thought that I gave good answers, but it felt like I was being grilled, and it wasn't at ALL conversational like the other interviewees were saying. They went down a list of questions, taking turns. One would ask, I would answer, and then he would turn to the other interviewer and say, "Doctor, your next question?" and so on. Ick.

Your thoughts on the day?

I thought that the school was absolutely fantastic, and would really love to attend there next fall. Feeling a little sick to my stomach.

Roger rocked the house, no?

I had my interview on 9/19. I thought the interview went well, my panel of interviewers made it into a conversation but they did have a list in front of them (for askin questions, i suppose) but they didn't seem like they were goin down the list, at least one of them didn't. Either way, it was conversational for me but i think being relaxed also helped the process.

As for advice, just really try to be calm and relaxed if this is your first interview. I would have to say that if TUCOM is your first interview, you're lucky because it's not that stressful (unlike the one i had).

The questions i had were:
1. why doctor
2. why DO
3. Tell me about your research
4. What do you do for fun
5. What have you done since your application
6. How will you be able to handle the school since it's close to las vegas
7. Do you think you will be able to adjust to the weather here
8. Would you give a respirator to a preg woman or an old man (no right or wrong answer, just be able to justify).
9. Do you have any questions for us.

I did have questions and that helps also because it shows your interested. You dont have to ask specific questions about the school itself, ask about the interviewers, why they're there and what they did before they came. That's what i asked about.

One of my interviewers was really big in research and so am i, so we talked a bit about that. I had more questions but they were sorta on a schedule but overall, it was easy and conversational (i guess dependin on your panel).

pregnant lady vs old man?! HAHA when does that ever come up in real life? I guess I'd need more info.

I'd say to stay relaxed, which is easy to do, but if you get Drs. X and Y (I'm hesitant to use their names, and you don't have a choice anyway!) you could be in for a bumpy ride.

Best of luck

The interviewer will give you more info, i'm just givin the basic idea. Yeah, it doesn't happen often but that's not really the point of the question.

Good luck

mj1878, it was neat to put your face to the handle when we got there. I’ve been reading your posts for months.
I had a different interview panel and they seemed friendly albeit pokerfaced. Conversation nothing; it still felt like an interview (answering canned questions will do that).
That was my first interview so I can’t say how it measures against any others but I honestly thought the school was great. Touro NV is definitely my first choice so I’m feeling the same post interview anxiety you are.
Good luck, I hope we get the two page envelope.

Cowtipper,

I still don't know who you are, though! Unfair. Kenneth would be my guess (?)

Yes, the school was definitely an easy sell for me; the only thing about that is that it brings out the pessimist in me and makes me think that I did terribly in the interview, just because I would like to attend that school so badly now! Good luck in the future!

Marc

I don't know who cowtipper is but this is Kenneth. I hope I get into that school to, wow, TOURO is the number one choice for more people then I thought it would be. One week and counting good luck!

The interview was pretty easy. It's a good environment although I don't really like the whole "warehouse" feel of the school.

hey,
i interviewed with you on 9/20.. I was the short indian girl.. 🙂 yeah I remember you having the hard core interviewers, because another guy had just interviewed with those guys and he said they were hard..dont worry though.. I had a similar experience at another school where 2 of the ppl interviewing me weren't very receptive to my responses and didn't even nod or smile at me ever.. so I was worried they didnt like me, and it made it very hard to answer the questions with enthusiasm when I was being received this way.. I tried my hardest anyways, but thought I still did poorly..anyhow I found out i got accepted to that school yesterday...its too bad some interviewers dont know that when you're interviewing, you're trying to get sold on the school too.. o well.. anyways roger was awesome! we definitely wouldn't get a student affairs director like that anywhere else.. we find out about our acceptance on 9/30.. cant wait to find out! i have a good feeling about this one 🙂

I was just wondering what day you interviewed. Also I was wondering what you liked about your interview. I am waiting to hear if I get an interview, could you guys post your stats for the ones who got interviews. I hope i hear back from them soon.

You will be just fine. You are still way early in the interview cycle. Don't stress just sit back relax and enjoy.

It's funny you saying "I was the short indian girl"
because I was going to say "I was the short Korean guy".
Yeah, I wish I had gotten someone else for the interview, but things will turn out however they're supposed to. Do you think that us interviewing so early has any pull? Best of luck to you. :luck:
By the way, will you go to Tucom or the other school you interviewed at?

go hankuk!! lol. I hope I dont' have to refer to myself as the short korean guy. ahhhhhh... aigoooo. lol. thanks for the advice. gj man!! and GL!

I got my letter on Friday 9/16 that I had gotten an interview and have called almost five times a day and left multiple messages every bussiness day since I got the letter. I have never had anyone pick-up and only once recived a call back, but I was in a meeting and had my phone off. Has anyone else had this much trouble scheduling their interview for Touro Nevada?

Did anyone ask about how their 3rd and 4th year rotations are setup? They don't really provide any information on their website. (By the way I didn't interview there but I am just curious.)

Hey Marc,

After doing some more research and talking with brother who is in his 4th yr of med school, I actually don't think I would be choosing TU-Las Vegas over some of the other schools I am interviewing at, only bc it's not as established as some of the others. I really did like the school and the people there, but I also really liked NSU, which I got accepted at. I got some advice on SDN.. check it out.. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=230649

I am thinking that CCOM, PCOM, Western, and NSU are my top choices (in no particular order). I have cancelled my upcoming interview at UNECOM, and will be possibly cancelling KCUMB & WVSOM. For schools, that are in places I don't really see myself at, I see no point in wasting $400 to go interview at, u kno? Tell me whats happening with your top choices?

I know this sounds horrible, but I'm actually very concerned about residencies. Concerned to the point that I have to weigh my options of md vs do over this issue.

Is it appropriate to just outright ask to see match lists from a school? Honestly, I believe they should be obligated to show you if you are interested in applying there.
