I requested a paper application from Touro because the online print-out wasn't very "pretty". 😉 Anyway, they sent this along with it. This wasn't mentioned anywhere on the school's website, so I wanted to share:
I transcribed this from an actual letter, so if something doesn't make sense, let me know (I may have skipped a line somewhere). 😀
For those candidates who apply sufficiently early, the Touro University California College of Pharmacy provides an option to apply for Early Decision. The advantage of this program is that it positions a candidate to interview and obtain a decision on the part of the Admissions and Standards Committee during a period when there are an optimum number of seats available for the approaching class. Candidates for Early Decision will be interviewed in late August or early September, well before the regular cycle of interviews normally begins in mid October.
Your request for application materials was received at such a time that it is realistic for you to apply for Early Decision. Assuming that your application and accompanying material arrive early enough, and you are judged to be eligible for an interview, you will be offered an opportunity to interview in late August or early September as part of our Early Decision Program.
Should you elect Early Decision and be accepted for the subsequent Class, you will be required to pay a non-refundable Acceptance Deposit of $2,000 and to pledge not to continue the process of applying to other pharmacy programs.
Should you elect not to apply for Early Decision, you will be eligible to apply in the same manner as any other regular candidate. The disadvantage of going through the regular admission process is that you will not be interviewing when the maximum number of seats are available. The advantage to applying in the regular admission process, if you are accepted, is that you will not be required to pledge to discontinue your quest for additional pharmacy program alternatives.
Your decision to opt out for Early Decision or to pass on that option will not affect the final decision on the part of the Admissions and Standards Committee. In short, no candidate will be pre-judged in any fashion depending on whether the Early Decision option is exercised or not.
Whats the next step? Complete the application for admission and send it in ASAP with the Application Fee. Have the support material posted to the Office of Admissions straight away. We do not require the application in advance of the support material. Should your file become complete in a timely manner and you are judged to be eligible for an interview, you will receive an invitation to interview by mail. You will then have the option of scheduling your interview in late August or early September (to take advantage of Early Decision) or after September (to be considered as a regular candidate).
Please contact the Assistant Director of Admissions, Mr. Steven Davis, if you require further clarification of the Early Decision option.
