1) Are you, all things considered, happy with your experience at Middletown?
Overall I would say yes! If you asked me a few weeks ago my answer would be different due to exams. Medical school is naturally stressful irregardless of where you attend. I think our campus in particular has decent support. Our research program could be stronger and I think that is something that admin is working on. We are not a competitive campus and students help each other out. There are a few gunners in each class but overall it is a cooperative environment. Our grades are based on historical averages. Middletown being a new school, there are many opportunities to get involved with clubs and community service. Great for students who show initiative. We have kick a$$ faculty. I have had the opportunity to get to know faculty well and even go out to lunch with them and other students on occasion.
2) Are students set up to do well on exams? In other words, do exams seem fair for the most part?
I believe so. Our classes are flipped so you could theoretically watch a a segment of a video a few times if you didn't understand the concept. Our faculty is the gold nugget! They go above and beyond to help us during office hours, etc. I don't think I have ever had an exam that I believe was unfair. The only times that I did poorly on an exam were when I didn't put in the time to study.
3) How are clinical rotation sites for 3rd year arranged? Is there a lottery? And do students stay at one site for their entire 3rd year?
Third year rotation is based on a lottery system, however, extenuating circumstance (e.g. family, mortgage, children) they will take that into consideration and place in the best place possible. You assigned the one site for the entire third year, for an example ORMC, one of our main and biggest rotation site, it is possible to do the entire clerkship there, with others like Horizon there is some driving involved. For the most part students are generally happy to be out of the classroom and learning hands on.
