For this question, why can't the answer be A? There is a graph showing how one of the enzymes involved is most active around 70 degrees.

Is it because A and B are pretty much same answers? C is the next best one so is that why C is the answer?

Is C the answer because at optimal temperature, the archaeon would use the desired product for themselves?

A and B are not the same answers. A is saying that if you hold something at 70 degrees, the reaction rate will be faster than at 100 degrees, which is just false. The kinetics of chemical reactions are hastened by increased temperature. B is saying that changing the temperature will change the activation energy itself, which is patently false. The activation energy does not depend on temperature. And finally, D is saying that CO2 will be less soluble at 70 degrees than at 100 degrees, which is also false because if you increase the temperature of gas, it will want to stay a gas and not go into solution.

The reason the experimenters are keeping the organism at 70 and not 100 is because at 100, the organism is growing optimally, meaning it will divert a lot of resources towards reproducing and production of the desired chemical product would be negatively impacted.
