Does anybody else think TPR ICC Bio passages are extremely difficult? I am getting like 3/7 and 4/7s on these passages. However, having taken the MCAT last year, I do feel like these ICC Bio passages are the closest resemblance to what I saw in the BS section last year, so I am sorta freaking out.

They're supposed to be insanely difficult. Getting 40 - 50% correct is pretty good.

As far as ICC being representative of the real MCAT's bio section.... are you kidding me? The real MCAT is waaaay easier.

Don't get so stressed out about ICC. It's designed for you to get a lot of questions wrong because your mistakes give you an opportunity to learn about the critical thinking and reasoning skills that you will need on the MCAT. That's all you need to get out of ICC: be able to figure out why you got the question wrong, and how you could have logic-ed your way to the right answer.

the ICCs are more difficult that the real MCAT. this has been confirmed by SDN members and TPR instructors. however, they are excellent sources of practice.

the first ICC bio i did, i got a 2/7. now, I am only missing around 1-2 per passage.

Are the ICC practice presented in MCAT style format? In other words, are they passage based practice tests with emphasis on critical thinking? I do not have the ICC book, but I am interested if they are MCAT style practice, even if they are not indicative of the real thing.

What makes them so difficult? The time constraints? Passage size? Testing content beyond the scope of the real MCAT?

Any insight will be HIGHLY APPRECIATED! 🙂

Is it just Bio ICC that is more difficult than the MCAT? I definitely get 50% wrong on them. Physics and Organic as well as Verbal ICC I do rather well. 75%+. GChem is most like 60% right now 🙁

I'm super stressing about the MCAT because I got hammered on my TPR MCAT#4.

The Hyperlearning workbook does seem a little easier than ICC passages, although there are a few where I get 50-60% correct. Most of the time I get 70%-80% correct.

TPR ICC Bio passages are extremely difficult; however, I think TBR bio passages are worst.

Don't worry about those. TPR FLs are also a lot harder than the real thing. I alternated between TPR and AAMC FLs in my last ten days of study. I took four TPR FLs in my last ten days and averaged a 28. I also took four AAMC FLs and averaged a 37. I got a 38 on the real deal.

Agreed. Haven't done icc but tbr bio is insane

That's cause TBR Bio passages are not representative of MCAT Bio. ICC Bio and Kaplan Bio section tests are representative of the harder MCAT bio passages and TPRHL regular bio passages are representative of the easy/medium level MCAT bio passages, at least in my experience.

So TBR Bio passages are low yield / inefficient as far as MCAT Bio practice goes? I was wondering if they might be a waste of time doing.....

Thanks

When I took the MCAT last year, I did all the practice passages in the first Bio book of TBR. That was probably the biggest waste of time (aside from doing TBR verbal) I ever did in terms of MCAT practice. TBR is the best in the biz for physics and gen chem though.

I'm practicing random passages from this book, and I can say that the difficulty of the material put TBR to shame.

Started with verbal and got creamed by 5 passages (15/33)

I did three physics passages and got 3/6, 5/6, 3/6

I did two Gchem passages and got 3/6, 4/7

Now I'm working on bio. The first bio passages was not nearly as bad, but still got 5/7. Let's see how this trend will hold.

I like the format of the passages because they represent AAMC format (experiment-heavy), but the questions are way harder.

I did the whole TPR-ICC VR... It was rough. My average was somewhere around 53-54% in VR ... I just started EK 101, which is my second time doing it... The passages are more interesting IMO.

Have you done BR bio? I dont think there can be anything outhere that is harder than BR bio.

I thought TPR ICC Bio is a lot harder than TBR Bio.

I can't make a sound judgement, yet, since I still need to do more passages to get a sense of how difficult TPR ICC bio is. TBR bio was hard, but I was able to score 70-75% on the passages I did (2-3 passages from each chapter).

That being said, TPR ICC bio passages are very, very close representatives of AAMC passages. The graphs, tables, and experiments. The questions are many folds harder though.

Yea definitely. The question stems in TPR ICC bio passages are pretty weird.

Just did 2 bio passages from this book. The first one was about glycogen and enzymes and the second one was a pedigree. I got 5/6 on the first one and 2/6 on the second. I'm truly surprised that I did so bad on the pedigree passage given that I'm really good with those. Man, this book sucks.

is there a detail explanation to the ICC problems other than just the correct answer which is given at the end of the book

Unfortunately no. You have to been enrolled in a classroom class and you get the answer explanations from the teacher's mouth.

I thought TBR bio was worse....Boy I was wrong!...I just did two passages in TPR-ICC as well. The first one was that glycogen passage (3/6). and the other was a long passage # 5 (4 experiments) about Hantavirus (4/7)... Someone else used that book before I did and I think he or she gave up after 4 passages. That person was getting 2/7 and 1/6 on these passages. I hope MCAT does not give crazy stuff like that....

Well, the passages are very good representatives of mcat passages in that they are very experimental. The questions are definitely harder than mcat questions. Also, mcat usually include questions that could be answered by pure "common sense" without reference to the passage. Those are the worst questions for me by the way, and those the type of questions that you don't find in any prep material, including the ICC book.

I haven't done passage 5 yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I did 1-4 so far and passage #9, which was a pedigree. On the first four passages I did good, except for the second passage. However, the pedigree passage destroyed me. I got only 2 correct answers after spending 17 mins decoding the pedigree.

Ochem on the other hand is not that bad. I did the first 4 passages and missed only 2 qs total.

Physics and chemistry are ridiculously hard.

Give the third passage of bio a try. It took me 6 mins to read the passage alone and nearly 15 mins to do the whole thing. But I ended up with 7/7 on it 🙂

Did you do the passage about the Hantavirus? I think it's passage #5 providing we are using the same edition. I think my time will be better spent in TPRH-SW. After I am done with that, I will do TPR-ICC.

How is verbal from ICC? I've done about 20 passages from it, and i'm getting 60-70% right, with a bit slow on timing.

If you are close to the 70%, that is good... You likely will get 10+ in VR in the actual test. Most of the ICC VR passages are hard.

More like 60% but depends, how doe these passages compare to ek 101 and TPRH verbal? I havent done those yet
