Which of the things come from the ectoderm?

I. Epidermis of skin
II. Dermis of the skin
III. Sweat glands

I is true and easy. I said I, II, and III. But it was just I and III? wut.

TPR: "The skin's epidermis and it's derivatives (which include hair, nails, and sweat glands) are derived from the ectoderm and the dermis is from the mesoderm.

EK says the skin, without distinguishing layers, comes from the ectoderm. Aside from the fact that EK's freaking lack of info but abundance of incorrect info infuriates me and makes me increasingly glad that I switched to TPR Bio before ending my content review, I'd like this clarified. First, does this have to be so specific? Next, why are sweat glands derivatives of the epidermis if they reside in the dermis?

To people still studying, you need to ditch EK bio now.

👍THIS!!!!

I'm not going to dispute that EK Bio does seem a bit sparse on information at times, but EK Bio actually does say that the dermis is mesoderm.

Pg. 170, Section 8.13 Skin:

The dermis is connective tissue derived from mesodermal cells. The dermis is embedded by blood vessels, nerves, glands, and hair follicles.

EDIT: I'm thinking that the sweat glands are simply a protrusion of the epidermis (ectoderm) into the dermis. Any thoughts?

Oh then I guess that was just from the Audio Osmosis, where they say "the skin, nails, and nervous system are derived from the ectoderm". I naturally assumed they said the same thing in the book. I probably missed that because I stopped using the book after realizing I don't trust EK one bit lol.

I'm not entirely sure. It may just be worth memorizing at this point (at least for me - my test is in 3 days).

Knowing that sweat glands, which begin structurally in the dermis, are ectodermally derived unlike the rest of the dermis?

That's pretty intense. I would have said "I only" given that I knew epidermis vs dermis origin but would have assumed sweat glands developed where they end up: in the dermis.
