traditional vs. computerized OAT

I'm a prospective opt student and I wanted to know if anyone who has taken the computerized OAT had any problems with the process (registration, testing, score transcripts). Has anyone out there taken both formats? What did you think?

I took both. Scored a lot better on the computerized one but that's because i studied more the second time. i really liked getting my scores on the same day. QR is tough to do on the computerized cuase you have to skip around and end up wasting a lot of time. hope that helps some.

I agreed with you. I took the Computerized one only and I got pretty low score on QR. I think it is good to know ur score right away instead of waiting nine weeks or so. I am not that patient, so it is all up to u.

i really liked getting my scores on the same day.

So they give you a score on the day of the test, and then they send you your curved score, or how does it work?

after i took the test the comp. thought for like 30secs(which seemed like forever and heart was just about to jump out of me) and my scores came out and I got a copy at the center. they told me the schools would get them in about three weeks because they have to make sure the scores are correct(i guess they recheck the answers, i am not sure) on the report that i got, it had percentiles beside it, i don't know how they figure those out since they don't have other scores to compare to.

Did you guys find it hard to like, jump around on the reading comp. part, and also were you allowed scrap paper on the QR part? I would think it'd be difficult to write down your equations and do the math and such quickly. Also did your eyes get strained or tired? I'm worried i would get a headache or my eyes would get sore from looking at a screen so long.

I did find it hard to jump around on the reading comp. I was also allowed to use scrap paper for the whole test. my eyes also get tired after the physics part. You know what? I think it still is worth it since u know ur score right after the test.

I got the impression that starting this fall, the OAT will be given exclusively on the computer. Is that correct?

Call me old fashioned, but I very much prefer taking tests on paper.

i can't agree more! i'm glad that i was able to have the option of taking the paper form (i can't imagine taking the RC with a computer monitor); when i found out that they were offering the computerized format, i registered right away for the paper test!

Surely the OAT administration would be sympathetic to those individuals with eye or other health conditions.

Is that really true? I could not imagine sitting there for 5-6 hrs writing a test off a computer screen, especially for the math and physics sections, that would just be terrible.

Well I'm glad I've already taken my OAT.
