I live in CA where most traffic violations are considered infractions unless they officer thinks you were driving recklessly and mark down misdemeanor on the citation. For me I've received two traffic infractions...

1. 5 years ago as a junior in HS, made a right turn on red doing a California rolling stop (not coming to a complete stop) and got a red light violation. Plead no contest, paid, and went to traffic school.

2. Yesterday driving from Bay Area to LA, got a violation doing 90 mph at 65 mph zone. I really don't think I was doing 90 so I'm going to contest it. It is an infraction.

My questions are...

1. Which schools actually ask for you to list traffic infractions? I know most are list "felonies/misdemeanors not including minor traffic violations". I know UCinn and Vermont do, and even if they do, does it really matter?

2. For my second ticket. My court date is in October and the officer said I can contest and I'm innocent till proven guilty, so if I do plan to contest it how do I list it on apps? I'm technically not convicted yet. Do I just omit it for now and list only the first one?

Thanks all.

I wouldn't worry about this stuff unless you have a large record. They're trying to see if you're honest.

1. Those two schools, both of which I applied to last year, are the only two that I happen to know ask about traffic violations specifically. I had one (from Cali, imagine that...damn CHP). UCinn looks at it case by case. If you have a lot of tickets, or one that is ridiculously reckless (going 70 in a 25mph school zone or something crazy like that), it might affect you. Other than that, shouldn't hurt. They're looking for patterns of recklessness.

2. I would only list the one you've been convicted of already. And you might want to get a copy of your public driving record...that first ticket may already have been taken off. They don't last forever on there in Cali. That's what I did...just call the DMV and they'll mail it to you.

Funny you mention that 90 in a 65 zone ticket... CHP pulled me over once for supposedly going over 80 on a sharply curving highway overpass connecting 2 freeways. That was not possible, since my car would've rammed into the guardrail at that speed (I later tried taking it at high speed and the fastest I could go was about 60 or 65, and even then I felt like I was losing control). But he didn't believe in basic physics I guess and a court fight probably would've cost more than the ticket. So yeah, they're full of bs sometimes and just trying to fill their quota (and the state's empty coffers).

There's no way a couple traffic tickets are going to affect you whatsoever. I didn't know any schools required you to list them...they must be the only ones. None of mine did.

These aren't misdemeanors...you were not placed in handcuffs or convicted of a crime. Nobody will care. Rest easy.
