  1. Attending Physician
Dr. James McLean, Kessler Class of 2006, RIC pain fellowship grad 2007, who was recently appointed as medical director of the University of Kansas Spine Center died tragically on Sunday January 22nd of a snow boarding accident in Colorado. He was truly the nicest person I have ever met and his committment to PM&R and academic medicine was apparent to all who knew him. It is a sad day for the PM&R community. The contribution Jim had already made to the field was phenomenal but the contribution he would have made to the field is what will be sorely missed. There is an online tribute at: http://jimmcleanmd.blogspot.com/

Wow- that is just awful news. This was my only interaction with him: Last year when I was interviewing for residency at U of Washington, he was there interviewing for a staff position there. He gave a phenomenal musculoskeletal lecture as part of his interview. He was a really impressive person. Just tragic. (was he Rehab_Sports_Dr on this chatpage?)

As axm397 mentioned, Jim was a outstanding guy and was held in high regards by all who were around him. I had the pleasure of working with him during his fellowship for a month and can attest to his amazing and infectious personality. He was one of those guys that would take time out of his hectic day as a fellow and help teach those around him, no matter how long it took. I am certain that he was destined to be a leader in the PM&R world and we will truly miss him.

btw, he is not Rehab_Sports_Dr (this was the other RIC fellow with him during his fellowship training).

I am saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Dr. James McLean. A large contingent from Des Moines University was on a ski trip to Breckenridge, CO this past wkend. Some of our group witnessed the efforts to assist James McLean. Upon learning more about story, many of us have reflected on the vast number of people that enter our lives through careers in healthcare…Patients & their families, classmates, instructors & colleagues. We send our thoughts & prayers to all that have entered the life of Dr. James McLean.

I worked with him some while I did an away rotation at NU my M4 year. He was awesome! I am shocked!! Truely sad!
