Hi everyone! I'm planning on going to dental school in the US (I'm a born and raised US citizen attending school in the US). Would I then be able to practice overseas? Would it be unwise to go at it in this fashion? Really, any discussion about this topic would be useful for me as I'm not sure what would be involved in pursuing this path.

Thank you,
Alex

It depends on which country you want to go to. Most of the countries accept DMD/DDS from US/Canada/Australia/NZ/UK etc.

But you need to check with the dental authorities of the country you are looking at.

I was thinking about doing the same thing, but I don't find anything online regarding this topic. I would really appreciate any input. I am thinking about Italy, UK or Spain.

Most of the EU countries require EU diploma and have strict regulations. You didn't specify in which country you want to practice, but you should know that you must know the native language pretty well. Also, remember that you will be competing for a place against natives, and it's just the same situation as when foreign trained dentists want to practice in US. Minus the 2-3 years of additional school. For major part of the EU countries (again check with the country you want to practice in) require an exam (country specific and in native language), or additional training (it may be a specialty in the same country. I know that you can teach in Univs without doing anything at all, just sitting through the ordinary exam for school's faculty). Message me if you have more questions.
