Can someone please explain how the transcript dilly works? Since AAMC accepts transcripts starting in May, how the heck do med schools get your grades from spring semester of your junior year (if you apply your junior year that is)?

I'm concerned for another reason. I'm applying as a senior, but I'm currently studying abroad and my institution here won't even finish 'til early July. So, med schools (if they want my spring grades) won't be getting that for a while? Will med schools seriously consider me only with grades up 'til last fall semester (with me that will be 3 and a half years of grades)? But even assuming I was a normal junior applicant... would med schools seriously consider me with only grades up 'til fall of junior year?
Or do they wait until spring grades are in?

hmm. seems to be an interesting dillemma. Unfortunately, I had finished my classes by Christmas, so I had a completed transcript mailed to them.

I'd suggest that you mail whatever you have at the first date. Most schools will request an updated transcript at a later date.

If on the other hand you need the spring grades to boost your GPA, then you'll have to wait until that is completed.

Any "normal" applicants that might know for sure? Did anyone with a great GPA still have spring transcripts requested from med schools.. if so, did it delay anything? HELP! :)

I sent in my AMCAS in October so my Spring Junior grades were in. I suggest you send in grades as soon as they become avaliable. Then after you have applied, send updated transcripts to each med school with the latest grades.

Since you are a senior, it is ok; just send in the grades up till your Fall senior semester, then when Spring grades are in, you can just send those to each school you applied to.

If you are waiting until you graduate because you are trying to pull up your gpa, then don't submit amcas till you have all your grades. July is not late anyway, although it is always better to submit amcas the day it's available.

haha, on second thought, it prolly won't be running smoothly by July anyway! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

Schools don't need your grades from second semester of your junior year. You'll get plenty of interviews with just 2 and a half years of grades. A lot of schools will just ask you to bring updated grade reports with you to interviews, or will ask you to send in transcripts later to make sure those grades are up to par. But it won't keep your app from being complete.
