To those that have already applied.....
Did specific grades in courses (let's say a C in a prerequisite) come up during your interview(s)? How was the question posed?

How can someone offer an explanation for specific borderline grades without shedding negative light on the application? For example, could I blame it on lack of time management early in college or taking on too many activities without getting burned for it...

... any advice a previous applicant can give on this issue is much appreciated!

I was asked about a W in biochemistry at one of my interviews. The reason I withdrew that year was due to a schedule conflict with another course I needed. That was a good enough answer for the interviewer.
I'm not sure what to tell you about how to explain poor grades. Was there just a few courses here and there that you did poorly on? Did all of your poor grades occur in a semester?
If you just had one or two lower grades, then I wouldn't sweat it.
Otherwise, it seems that the PS is the place for explanations of poor performance. The difficulty is how does one keep the PS positive and not sound like he is making excuses? I don't know the answer to that.
