I rotated through two different PM&R programs in August and September and neither of my grades were posted to my transcript until yesterday! I have asked my school to send an updated transcript to ERAS. My question to you guys is: for the programs that I have yet to hear from, would it be in my best interest to send an email stating the updated transcript with my PM&R grades is being sent out? I was going to start sending out emails to programs I am really interested in but have not heard from, and I figured it might not hurt to explain this in the email. I'm afraid that program directors will look at my application and not see any proof of my genuine interest in the field. I do have two letters of recommendation, one from each program, but I'm guessing this may not be enough.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Your designated programs will see the updated transcript whenever they log on. Emailing the programs asking for a status report and providing them with an update probably won’t drastically change anything, but it shouldn’t hurt you.

Programs get med school transcripts in various stages of completion. We understand that PM&R rotations are usually squeezed into the early part of MS-4 year, and that some grades might not make it onto your submitted transcript. Proof of interest? Your PM&R letters are proof enough. Because they include comments on your clinical skills and professionalism and work ethic, I think your LORs let us know more about you and your possible fit within PM&R and our program than any single new grade on a transcript.

Consider yourself lucky: some schools won’t submit updated transcripts at all.

I scanned my late PM&R grades as a PDF and sent them via email with my step 2 score and a follow-up letter (~ December). I thought it was helpful. Heard back immediately from a few programs.

Thank you both for responding. I think I might just send out a quick email regarding my status and include this update.

Have a great weekend!

alternatively, you can ask your interviewers if they received the update information at the time of the interview- it's an indirect way to point out you did indeed have a PMR rotation
