Hey guys, so here's my predicament:

My AMCAS got verified recently and I (unfortunately) forgot that they had a copy of my transcript without my Spring 2011 or Summer 2011 grades. So the way they calculated my cGPA, I wound up with a 3.68 and showed up as only taking 18 credits that entire year.

But with the grades from Spring and Summer my GPA could be up to a 3.75. I already ordered for the new transcript to be sent there yesterday because of an issue with AACOMAS (they "undelivered" my application because of the lack of spring courses).

I was thinking of filing for an Academic Change Request on AMCAS to see if they could re-calculate my GPAs and send them out to the schools as an update. Does anyone happen to know if this is the right course of action? Or should I just send the updated transcript to each school directly?

Thanks for your help! 🙂

I don't think there's anything you can do about it for AMCAS.

You could update schools, but they don't need a transcript until you are matriculating. You can just send them an update letter. Personally, I think you should wait a little while before sending the update, but hopefully others will weigh in

As sector9 pointed out, an academic change request isn't for new grades. Your application is stuck as it is.

I would also wait to send updates to schools. When you haven't heard a peep from a school for awhile, then it's a good time to use the new grades as a reason to get in touch with them and remind them of your existence.

Thanks for the input!

I'm still a little concerned about the potential GPA boost I can get but my main concern is about one of the courses from Summer 2011-- it's a course fulfilling the second half of the pre-med requirement for most schools. Should I still wait to send the transcripts or rush them to make sure they're in before I submit secondaries?

Don't worry. You don't need to complete pre-med classes until you matriculate.

Once again, you don't need to send your transcripts to anyone at all. You don't need to rush them because you don't need to send them. Period. AMCAS won't change anything at this point, and schools don't want them until you are MATRICULATING.

sector9 answered your main concern. With respect to your GPA boost, there's nothing you can do about that. Even an update sent to schools is unofficial; they'll still only be looking at what's on your AMCAS app.

Source? This was not necessary, nor allowed, before.

You bring up a good point. I am confused myself now. haha. I remember seeing it somewhere, but it very well could have just been for Texas. I can't find it on either site now. I am 100% sure Texas changed my GPA, but I got an email from AMCAS saying they got my new transcript. I will try and find out, for the OP and my sake hah.

I stand corrected. It must have been a TMDSAS only thing. It is easy to confuse the two. Here is the source that shows AMCAS WILL NOT CHANGE GPA AFTER VERIFICATION. I will remove my previous post so no one gets the wrong info.

If current/future grades are entered on the application, but not listed on the official transcript at the time of verification, they will not be included in the AMCAS GPAs. Conversely, if grades are not entered by the applicant, but at the time of verification appear on the official transcript on file at AMCAS, they will be included in the AMCAS GPAs.
