hello everyone,
I got an interview for a PGY2 position in another program. They are also offering a PGY1 position for my wife too.So I am very much interested in the transfer. But the new PD is asking for a letter from my current PD before interview..And my current PD is totally against the idea of transfer. Many of my seniors tried this last year .

Is their any solution for my problem???
Any help will be appreciated

Solutions:

1) stay where you are

2) refuse to sign a contract for PGY-2 at your current program for next year; run the risk of your current PD saying you did not complete PGY-1 in good standing and refusing to write you a good LOR

Let's face it, there aren't a lot of good solutions if your current PD is unwilling to let you out of the program with a statement of being in good standing and a letter of reference. Most PDs want residents who want to stay and while they may not wish to lose them, it sounds as if your program has had a lot of rats trying to flee the sinking ship and the PD isn't interested in helping anyone else go.

You can try and talk to him/her reasonably and see what they say. If however, they found out you interviewed elsewhere without their knowledge it may be an uphill battle to get a good LOR. Pretty much ANY program you interview for will ask for a letter from your current PD.
