Greetings ...
I'm a CA-1 looking to transfer to a program in the Boston area around July 2005 ( my wife has to move to rural western Mass ... ). I'm at a program in Philly that is, unfortunately, going south fast 🙁 and I don't see the point in staying on here for my final year and/or fellowship ...
I have my Chair's blessings too 🙂

Anybody out there who has transferred in the CA2/3 years... ?
How will the process work ? Do in-training scores count etc...

Thanks.

Just interested in knowing which program you are at in Philly and why it is "going south fast." I interviewed in Philly at Temple and Jefferson and ranked them as my 2nd and 3rd choices. I thought both were strong programs for different reasons. What's the issue? Just curious here.

Best of luck with finding a program for transfer in CA-3 year. At least you have your chair's blessing b/c you don't need him/her making your CA-2 year a living hell.

Relax, its neither of the two programs you've ranked.
Let me expand on the "going south fast" comment ...
This was a solid program when I matched here but too many things have changed over the last year and its uncertain where this program is headed... looks uncertain right now BUT if everything works out with the new management, it might become even better than it was...
time will tell ...

Look stop being mysterious with the Philly program "going down south" quick junk! You're at Drexel's Anesthiology program so just admit it already. I think Drexel is a fine institution but if you think it has problems then just say so. Otherwise say nothing about where you are at all instead of this mysterious cra.p!

Yeah I am curious as to what program in Philly the OP is talking about.

I thought Drexel was shutting down its anesthesiology program. I remember receiving inquiries from residents about transferring.

I just finished transferring and yes they look at both you In service scores, and they will want your PD's blessing. They may also ask for an updated dean's letter from your med school and your eras applications. so for all of you guys graduating from med school, even after you match store your Lor , eras app, deans letter because you never know when you will need them again. Good luck.

Officially... Drexel has not closed down.
It has only pulled out of the 2004 match.
CA-1 Positions for 2005 will probably be filled out of the match.
About 1/2 of the full-time faculty have left / are not renewing contracts for next year. MCP has all but shut-down (Drexel used to be MCP Hahnemann U.) The Department is under new management. The nationally regarded chairperson quit. Enough about Drexel ...

Has anyone here transferred, or heard of someone transfer in or out of the MA or CT programs, at the CA - 2/3 level? With large programs, like those in the Boston area, I'm guessing that people transfer in/out often enough ... I'm not sure what's needed ... Is transferring between programs like a whole new application with funding issues involved or is a strong recommendation, good in-training scores and an interview usually good enough ...

I think the ACGME only allows transfers during CA-1. Your last two years of residency have to be at the same institution. UTSouthwestern.... correct me if i'm wrong. 😕

It's been done before. I think we made two exceptions for residents with extreme family circumstances and allowed them to finish their CA-3 years here.
