Transfer from DO school to MD school: how feasible?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
it's not easy to transfer from any school period.

some schools, such as ucla, don't accept any transfers. others have certain criteria which must be met. These are sometimes because your wife and children live in another part of the country.

But it is more more likely for an ostoepathic student to transfer before a foreign student.

It all depends on the individual school and your performance as a student.

This can happen, but it's very hard. The reason it's so difficult-- spots open up when people transfer out/repeat a year and that can fluctuate from year to year (10 transfered from my school last year, 2 this year). The two people who got into my school this year had high MCATs and a 4.0. As far as I know (based on my limited knowledge of the personal lives of my school- which is very limited!), they weren't married/engaged to people from my school, but that is my speculation. So shoot for a 4.0 and get some killer recommendations. 🙂

That depends on the school. Drexel accepts 2nd and 3rd year transfers.

For transfer into the second year, the adcom requests that the applicant turns in copies of their syllabi, exams, etc. Schools do vary in courseload, but most cover the "basics" in first year (Anatomy, Histo, Embryo, Physio, Biochem, Immuno, Neuro etc.)

I don't think any school can go over all aspects of each course alone, and that's where studying for the boards comes in. I think because of that, small discrepancies aren't that big of a deal.

I don't think a lot of schools accept 2nd year transfers, but I know OSHU (or OHSU) in Oregon does, along with Drexel.

I think you can go to the AAMC website and look up the particular schools that accept tranfers from non LCME acredited schools.
