How many of you transferred during your undergraduate career? How many more than once? Did it make it more difficult for you academically? Can it be a valid point to partially explain low GPAs?

I transferred to a UC from the largest canadian university, U of T, and maintained an upward trend in my GPA (nearly 4.0 for last year and a half).

And I think this is a stupid poll. Ppl either transfer 0 or 1. I think most schools ONLY let you transfer into junior year.

I have transferred twice. Once from a community college to a 4 year and once from a 4 year to another 4 year. My GPA went up after the final transfer. I just wasn't happy at the university I was at. My grades went up as I was very happy to be at my new school.
However, a lot of people say that transfer students usually do see a decrease in GPA the semester they transfer as they are not used to the school.

Unfortunately,
I will be transferring twice. The first time I took a year off from school to do the AmeriCorps program, City Year and had to go to the school that offered me the most scholarships. Unfortunately, my husband just failed out of this school and now I have to transfer again. Not sure if my chances of getting into dental schools will be shot now. Probably 😕

i transferred from a UC to a different UC.
The new UC is more competitive and upper div science courses aren't exactly the easiest...

To be honest, I regret it. My gpa is dropping by the minute. I'm applying this june for the 2012 cycle and I'm scared what dental schools will think about my downward trend in grades ):

if you're at a university already and doing pretty good, just stay there.

During my sophomore year, I applied to transfer, and I got into a UC. Originally, I went to a small private university that is relatively well known. I wanted to transfer, because I had this preconcieved notion that huge UC public school would be...well...amazing. And I'm sure it is!

However, I realized that as an incoming junior I would have no friends or support system. In addition, I was junior...not a freshman anymore. That freshman experience is long gone 😴. Plus, I would be taking upper div courses. No time to make friends as easily. And why would I forsake my friends at my current institution? It sounded way to selfish and I was ungrateful for what I had now.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I'm happy that I turned down my transfer at the last moment, and stuck with my original undergrad. If you think about transferring, really evaluate the reasons! My reasons weren't good enough to warrant it.

I've transferred 4 times due to military. Not pretty when credits don't transfer well. But it did mean I got to retake a few things and receive a higher grade than the first time around. Can't hurt I guess 🙂 Hopefully admissions won't view me as some crazy student, burning down colleges along my path to dental school.. :ninja:

Although I technically transferred once, I have 4 schools on my undergrad transcript lol.
