I am an international student. Will transferring twice between medical schools prevent me from obtaining ECFMG certification or pursuing residency in the U.S.? All three schools meet ECFMG criteria. My family lives in the U.S., and I want to work there, so I cannot risk this. If anyone has knowledge on this, I would appreciate it if they could share.

Why are you transferring again, and if so to where?

I am currently studying at Çukurova University in Turkey. Our hospital was damaged in the 2023 earthquake, but it has not been repaired due to political reasons. As a result, education has deteriorated, and we lost accreditation. Additionally, intellectually, Ankara University is much stronger, and the student profile is higher. This is why it is considered one of Turkey's best medical faculties."

Loss of accreditation is definitely a valid concern. I'm not an international student so not sure I'll be able to provide answers re: licensing but I can't think of reason that would hurt you

The honest truth is you're facing an uphill battle no matter what you do, but some additional context might help. Why did you transfer the first time? Why did you enroll in an international school in the first place if your family is in the US and your goal is to work there?

When I was in my second year, my family obtained a Green Card and moved to the United States, so this was not the case when I first started school here. The school I currently attend is more successful and well-established than my previous one, which is why I transferred to ensure a higher-quality education. However, our hospital was damaged in the earthquake. From what I understand, the medical education system in Turkey is different from that in the U.S.; there are two curricula, and universities follow one of them. Since I will transfer during the clinical phase, there won't be any gaps in my education. Ankara University is the top university in the country, providing the best education, and it has higher recognition in the U.S. as well. It is also a school where I will gain more clinical experience.

But it is still on the World Dictionary of Medical School list.Do you think accreditation will still be problem?
How long is it going to take to get the hospital reestablished? What have your medical school administrators said?
