I am wondering if anyone has transferred schools (undergraduate) and how they adjusted? I am currently a sophmore more at my current school and not that happy, also if you go to a school undergrad that has a dental school, do you think that would help someones chances of getting in? Any help would grealty be appreciated. Thank you.

Many many folks transfer colleges as undergrads and go on to graduate as successful dental school applicants.

Assuming that you take the weed out courses (G-Chem, O-Chem, and Physics) at the same university that also has a dental school, I would venture that attending said school as an undergad is a plus. Those weed out courses are likely to be very rigorous as a result of informal pressure by the dental school. So, getting good grades in those courses becomes an indicator to the dental school adcoms that you can handle the demands of dental school in addition to preparing you to score high on the Chem sections DAT.

i started out at a small prestigous liberal arts school. didn't like it too much. got ok grades. transferred to a run of the mill state school and loved it. graduated with a 3.7. there was no dental school at my undergrad, but i do think a 3.7 from a general state school looks better than a 3.2 from a harder school. the happiness factor is huge too. i think you will do much better at a place where you are smiling. 🙂

I, too was a transfer student. I actually transferred twice and finally ended up at a state school. Because I was happier at the school I ended up at, I was more inclined to get involved in research and other activities that made me a more qualified applicant. I managed to keep my grades up at all three schools and ended up getting into my top choice dental school. I think if you can prove that you can keep your grades up at whatever school you go to, you'll be fine.

Not neccessary a dental school would give their undergrad more favors. One thing for sure is that ucla dental school doesn't care whether or not the applicant is a bruin. Check out the dental school carefully before you decide to transfer to its undergrad.
😀

You will be favored for dental admission at your undergrad school if it is a private school. Public schools do not care if you studied at their school and are applying to their dental school.

Beagle, does uop dental gives any favor to their undergrad or grad? Do you get an automatic interview just because you're from UOP?
I know Loma Linda does not, because my friend went to Loma Linda for undergrad got rejected for dental school.
I was kind of shocked when I saw that

I know a dentist who recently grad from UOP got into UOP of avarage GPA and above avarage DAT, except for his PAT (17), which means UOP do show a little favor towards their undergrads.

that was 3 yrs ago.
and may be they use lower gpa, lower dat scores standard at that time
not now
unless i see someone this year stat, then i'll believe

UOP does favor their own.
However, just because you went there for undergrad, it does not mean that you will get an interview automatically. They lower their standards a bit for their own students when it comes to dental and pharmacy school. After all, you are an alumni and you paid tuition. At private schools, a lot of people have legacies there and the school knows that those people are more likely to leave big donations in the long run.

For you guys that transferred, did you find it hard to adjust and meet new people? That is my only concern in transferring. I also will be transferring as junior.

Transferring is definitely a stressful thing. I transferred halfway through my freshman year and then right before my junior year. Although they sometimes tend to be cheesy, I would suggest going to any transfer orientation that they might have. That way you meet other people in the same boat. Also, if you transfer to a big school, transfer student housing is sometimes available. I decided to find roommates and move to an apartment, but my transfer friends who lived in this type of housing seemed to have a great support system and were able to meet lots of people in the same position. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.
