Hi, I'm planning on getting a 4 year degree before I apply to Pharm. school. The first two years, I had a 3.6 had one school. But this semester I transferred to a higher ranked school (UNC) and it looks like I'll have a gba around 2 with 2-3 C's. But only 1 of those classes are a prepharm requirement.

If I get my gpa back to about 3.4-3.5, will I still have a good chance and is transferred to a new school a good excuse for a bad semester?

School is school. So, I do not think that you should blame low gpa because you went to a more prestige school. But, as long as you have at least 2.7 gpa you should get into somebody school as long as you do great in every other part of the application process. Also, try to score high on the PCAT at least %50< and you should be fine. But, just don't drop on your gpa. Some schools do prefer students getting preqs especially upper sciences and maths at a 4 year school. Good luck and school is school.

I only have one course that is math/science this semester. Will non-math/science courses be evaluated with emphasis?

Where you go to school really doesn't matter. One bad semester won't hurt you, so just get your grades back up next semester. Usually there's more of an emphasis placed on pre-req classes, but it depends on the schools you apply to.

I completely disagree. 2.7 cummulative is not a GPA I would say "should get you in to a school". Same with a 50% PCAT which is entirely too low to be saying "you should be fine." 50% means half of the people who took the test scored as good or better than you did. You should aim much higher than a 2.7gpa and a 50% PCAT minimum.

Is "getting used to a new school" for the first semester an acceptable reason for a bad semester?

Debatable 🙂 A 3.2 from Harvard isn't the same as a 3.2 at a local state college. If you have a high PCAT, then it'll look more favorably with a harder school. If not, then well, I guess you're right.
