Hello,

I'm currently at a cc and I'm under Pre-Physical Therapy concentration. I was wondering when I transfer to university will that still be considered the "major" or will I begin taking classes for the program? I've read other sites, but I haven't seen much about transferring from cc to university with this. Should I change my major?

you can actually go for any major that you want and still apply to pt school, as long as u satisfy all required prereqs for the school you wish to attend. I have personally never heard of a major called only "Pre-Physical Therapy", mine was "Exercise Science Pre-Physical Therapy" (which seems to be the most popular among pre pt students). I also know many others applying to pt school with bio and athletic training degrees. hope this helps!

OP,

Welcome to SDN.

Most programs require a 4-year degree in any discipline of your choosing so long as you fulfill pre-requisite courses.

Research some PT schools you would like to attend and look at their requirements. It sounds as if you have not done much research yet. Good luck.

It's a pre-physical therapy option to transfer to university. Yeah I have to take my biology, chemistry, physics and other related courses. I wonder what it would be at university though. I'm interested in pediatric and orthopedic therapy. I've contacted different schools in my state, and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I just want to make sure that I'm taking the right classes, which I believe thus far I am.

School websites will provide you with that information. After completing your 4-year degree (any major the university offers), you must apply to PT school using PTCAS. PT school is where you can expand your interests in pediatrics and ortho therapy.

Yeah, I found that to be weird too. That's why I questioned this. I'm scheduled to speak with my academic advisor about that though.

Pre-PT is usually a Health Science/Bio/Kinesiology option within one or more of those majors at a university. They may have a Pre-PT major at a CC to fulfill most/all course prerequisites. Whether true or not, the belief is that the student will move on to a 4-year institution to complete their progress towards PT school applications (in some sort of PT track).

I just want to make sure that I'm on track with everything when the time comes to transfer. I want to be100% on track. 🙂

I transferred from cc to a state university. I majored in psychology and minored in biology (which is where a handful of my PT prereqs were fulfilled). I was accepted into a DPT program last week so it does not matter what you major in, just be sure to fulfill all prereqs.

CONGRATS! That's awesome to read about the success of others in this field. I wish you nothing but success in your journey! I hope to be there one day soon!!

Yeah, I'm thinking of majoring in Biology and having a minor in Exercise Science. Definitely keep me updated with your success!
