Transferring is the least of your worries. If you stay at NYU, your GPA will not likely be good enough for med school.

So to have any chance at med school, transfer ASAP....even if you have to take spring off if your local school won't accept you.

Are you a freshman or sophomore?

If the subject were to come up in an interview, simply state that the pressures surrounding the cost of NYU along with the daily commute were negatively affecting your grades. Keep it short and sweet, no whining.

And get top grades at your new school.

Btw this is one reason why many people don't recommend that premeds go to top ranked schools for med school. Your 2250 SAT and likely top high school GPA suggest that you have the chops to be a successful premed.
