I'm just wondering if it's in near future that trauma or asc docs will work on ER schedule... Meaning 3-4 12h shifts with no house calls or PTs to follow. What do you think?

Ours work 12 hour shifts, doing a week of days, a week of nights, a week of days in the ICU, a week of nights in the ICU and an administrative week as their five-week schedule.

I'm not sure if your question is will ER and trauma work similar hours/day or similar hours/week. Shifts, as noted above, are done already.

A 30-40hr workweek like ER will neither generate adequate revenue nor enough operative volume for a surgeon to keep his/her skills up. A system that has no in-house night attending might work if the workweek is all during prime OR time.
