What would you guys recommend to read on trauma surgery? Mattox seems too thick, Top Knife too operative assuming one knows all the basis. Looking for a text which explains the basic principles of management of trauma scenarios. Am a PGY2

We use the Trauma textbook here as a "gold standard" reference (since one of the authors is our chief of surgery) but we also have an excellent resident trauma manual that we follow.

Highly recommend Manual of Trauma and Emergency Surgery by Dave Shatz. Quick read, covers the basics and easy to carry around.

That being said, anyone know how to get hold of the Shock Trauma manual?

the USC red book. probably a pain in butt to get a hold of, im currently acquiring a new one as an orthopod demolished mine

Ha! "Uh... Dr. Plastikos, I didn't do my homework because the orthopod tore my trauma book in half...."
