Are there any PT Travelers that recommend a certain company over another? Any feedback on Advanced Medical?

I started doing travel PT as a new grad and couldn't be happier with my decision. I spoke to several recruiters before graduating and taking my first assignment. I did talk to Advanced Medical and I thought they were very nice, however, they didn't seem to have as many contracts available as some of the other companies. I chose to travel with Ardor Health Solutions and my recruiter is fantastic with new graduates! She knows the market extremely well and is upfront and will only present you to clients for assignments that are "new grad friendly". She also isn't pushy about taking something you're not comfortable with. Her name is Miranda *****ta.

I am having such a great experience doing travel PT as a new grad, that I made a pamphlet for the students at my school. I remember how nerve wracking it can be before deciding to travel. If you think you would find it helpful, I can send it to you. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

I have used Delta Healthcare Providers (Dallas, TX) and Reflectx Staffing (Tampa, FL). I'm satisfied with both but I hear Therapy Staff (Austin, TX) pays the best.

Keep in mind, that as a traveler you will make more per hour, but income potential might be less because it's harder to supplement your income if you're in one place for 13 weeks. Also, the employer will not pay you >40 hours because travelers are expensive. My point is, don't travel for the money.

Stambush Staffing serves all of Texas and the other 49 states. If there is work there, they will find it and get it for you. They also pay over time...>40 hours per week. Because of their contact with facilities all over the USA, they can also provide weekend assignments if you are looking to boost your weekly paycheck. The only downside is sometimes the hospitals may want you to do your orientation during the weekday before you work the weekend. I am a local contract PT with Stambush Staffing and I make more per week/month than i did at my fulltime job because I get paid overtime. I don't have to go looking outside of my agency for work because they keep me plenty busy.

So happy to hear that there are nre-grad friendly travel PT options! I'm due to graduate in May and am doing my 3rd affil in Hawaii... AND I WANT TO COME BACK! I heard that PTs doint get paid as much here as the mainland, however I love it here. The opportunity to work for a travel staffing agency is nice because of the housing stipend to offset cost of living. I'm going to reach out to Stambush and Ardor Health. Thanks for the imput!

well now I do have a question, when you pass the board and is asked for certification in specific state, what you should do? Is there a specific licensure for it or it depends on the location of the company?

You apply for the board exam through one state. The FSBPT reports your scores to the board of examiners of that state. If you want to work in another state you have to apply. Some states are fast (Texas, Nebraska), others are so slow they brings tears to your eyes (California.) The location of the company doesn't matter, only the area where you will be treating patients.

Staffing agencies like new grads because new grads usually ask for less money and are more flexible. DO NOT do travel therapy in Hawaii. You get paid much less and you pay much more to live. If you want to go to Hawaii, apply for a Hawaiian Airlines credit card and go visit one day. I recommend you reject the housing stipend and instead find housing on your own. You will spend far less on housing than if the housing agency found you housing.

I am going to do my first travel assignment soon! Check out Travel Therapists on Facebook or New Grad Travel Therapy. There is a lot of to learn about having a tax home, tax-free stipends, licensure, multi-state taxes, and contracts in general. I just watched two free webinars on travel therapy. Lots of resources out there, but you have to be willing to educate yourself especially when you are dealing with the IRS.

Hey Guys! I'm about to start Travel PT, and was hoping to get some advice/guidance from anyone who has experience with it. I'm a new graduate, and am currently aligned with Advanced, Aspen, and Aureus travel companies. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hey I am a current travel PT and I actually created a FB group where we post high paying travel jobs every week. I have been able to secure jobs ranging from $1900-$2200/week after taxes as a new grad (equivalent to a $140k-$185k salary).

Feel free to join the group. We also provide articles regarding negotiation tips and business skills. A lot of therapists get low balled by recruiters and we make sure that doesn’t happen in our group due to the arrangements we have with the different travel companies we use.
