I am coming from Los Angeles, CA. What is the best option (optimal cost/time balance) for getting to VCU from the Los Angeles area?

I see Dulles, National and Richmond as being the three nearest options for airports. Am I correct?

I'd appreciate any direction on this. Thanks so much.

... added richmond. I'm guessing the best deal is to fly into richmond.. it doesn't look too expensive. MOD, if u could please close this thread, i'd appreciate it.

thanks everyone

Nope, you forgot the closest one: Richmond International Airport.

For what it's worth, you should definitely fly into RIC.

I wouldn't advise trying to fly into any of the DC airports and then driving down....the tickets may be cheaper, but traffic is a nightmare. And Amtrak to Richmond is also not great, so there goes public transportation.

Norfolk to Richmond is less of a crappy drive, but since it's a tiny regional airport I cannot imagine that the prices would be any different.

there are hotels near the airport.. the Best Value Inn pretty much sucks. Go for the Holiday Inn at least.

a cab to VCU cost me somewhere around $24

It would not be an overstatement to say that there is bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-95 South between the Springfield Interchange and Fredericksburg every single hour of every single day.
