Hi,
I was wondering when's the best time to travel abroad if I'm doing premed. I was thinking of traveling abroad sometime during my junior year, but I'm not entirely sure if it's a good idea. Also, for those of you who traveled abroad, can you tell me how it was like? Was it fun, difficult, etc.? If you can, can you also give me any stories of your experiences? Thanks.

I haven't done it but it certainly be a plus. It gives you something on your application that isn't on everyone else's and is a talking point in interviews.

I definitely think its a good idea if it is something you are interested in. I've read testimonials and talked with admission councellers and they say that this will help you in any field you go into... gives perspective and opportunties that a lot of other students don't take.

If you are premed, just don't travel abroad during your application year, when access to phone, e-mail, and snail mail are essential to completing applications and getting notification of interview offers. Also, returning for interviews would be time-consuming and expensive. Doing something your junior year is very workable.

Definitely look into study abroad if you're interested in traveling. It's really a great experience. Junior year should be workable, but if you're having trouble fitting it in during a regular semester, there are plenty of summer opportunities as well. As stated above, just avoid it during your application year.
