So here is one of the Kaplan questions I got:
A 30 yr old woman is treated for infertility with clomifene citrate, a selective estrogen receptor modulator. A transvaginal ultrasound is performed every other day. After a healthy preovulatory graafian follicle is detected, which of the folowing substances should be administered?
A. Estradiol
B. hCG
C. Oxytocin
D. Progesterone
E. Prolactin
The answer is B. Initially I was looking for LH since the surge of LH leads to ovulation. I didn't know that hCG can bind to LH receptor and act as an agonist. If there was an answer choice LH, will LH make a better answer choice? Just out of curiosity, why not just give LH instead of hCG?
Many thanks in advance.
