I am currently a junior at Rutgers University. Ive retaken bio 1 & 2 because of D's and received A's. My gpa was increasing but now i am going to receive two C's this semester in upper level bio courses. This will decrease my gpa by a significant amount. Will this decrease in my trend of gpa be a killer for me when applying?

It won't 'kill' your GPA, but it will eff up your upward trend, which sucks. I had one going (a big one too) for like 2 years in undergrad and my last semester got ONE sub-par grade that honestly was 100% not my fault. Needless to say, it just looked funny and was actually brought up in an interview as 'strange.' I explained it and got into that school, so who knows. You'll most likely be fine ... especially as a Blink fan 😀

It won't be as big of a killer as a gpa in the crapper. Put it behind you and try not to **** up next semester.

Just work your butt off next semester!

My first semester freshman year I got a 2.8 and pulled it up to a 3.5 by the end of sophmore year with a good upward trend. Fall of my junior year I got 2 C's in upper level bio classes like you. I thought I was done for but it hasn't been mentioned in any interviews and I already have acceptances to KCOM and CCOM.

Good luck!

I'd retake the C's if you have time, AACOMAS is kind in those cases. Also, it's good to really learn what you missed the first time around in those classes, it will probably come in handly later down the road.

i would retake those classes but i think retaking my C's in chem 1 and 2 would be more beneficial since they are both pre-reqs. what do you think is better retaking those two upper levels or chem?

I think that depends on if you have taken your MCAT or not. If you haven't taken the MCAT, then you may benefit from retaking Chem 1 & 2. What are the upper-level classes, if you don't mind me asking...if they are directly related to med school, I would probably take those over. Just depends on your situation.

i havent taken my MCAT yet, im planning on doing that this summer while retaking chem. The upper level classes were genetics and physiology.

Hey I go to Rutgers, and u should take human parasitology. I got an A. I am actually an Evolutionary Anthropology major and nutrition minor. My advice is take ur time and dont take more than u can handle. Next semester I am taking molecular bio/biochem with Deis. That will be my only science course everything else is in the evolutionary department. Maybe u should join some clubs here at RU. CARE is my own student organization and we will have our own healthfair this spring where many ppl will get free checkups. Or look at some of my other organizations like pilot me, global brigades, rha. Also if u dorm on campus try volunteering at RWJ, thats what I do every Tuesday. I know RU is hard, but u need to know urself and do well accordingly. What classes did u take this past Fall? How did u do in Orgo? What upper sciences did u get Cs in?

im at RU also guys. this past semester was my first and i didnt do as well as i had hoped i would do. i got a C in history, C+ in physics, a B in bio and a b+ in physics lab. i honestly wasnt ready for RU's level but now that i know what im up against, i think ill do much better this spring. and hey, its all about the upward trend, right?

If you got C's in the pre-reqs, concentrate on retaking those suckers and making A's the next time around. How did you do in orgo? You'll have your plate full if you're also going to take the MCAT next summer. But it can be done. I retook 4 classes last summer and did my MCAT and got into med schools a few months later.

R U Rah Rah!

Rutgers alumni here, graduated last spring. Its hard to say whether this trend will have an effect on your application, but as long as you got the ECs and a decent MCAT you could be okay! Good Luck!
