So according to FA Thyroid Releasing Hormonre stimulates Prolactin release (p281 in 2009). Is this true? I never remember it really being emphasized in class. Is there a clinical correlation for this phenomenon? For example, would that mean that somebody with primary hypothyroidism and resulting elevated TRH would develop gynecomastia because of TRH stimulating prolactin?

👍 Yes, that's right. Also, look for lactation in a woman.

Yeah

Primary hypothyroidism can cause hyperprolactinemia. You would see galactorrhea in women and more likely decreased libido/impotence in men- if anything at all.

I think a more important clinical correlation would be that primary hypothyroidism-->hyperprolactinemia would cause amenorrhea.

it is a good test for sheehan's postpartum necrosis.
