Hi

Ok so I have very specific interests in what I would like to research (continue researchng from my undergrad) in grad school. Mainly obesity bias, sexual health &/or sexuality. Besides Yale does any1 know of any good researchers/programs that match any of these 3 categories?

Thanks!

As I discovered when applying, much of the work on sexuality and sexual health is being in social and developmental psych programs as opposed to clinical programs. Off the top of my head...

Rich Savin-Williams, Cornell (Human Development program, so purely a research track)
Michael Bailey, Northwestern
Lisa Diamond, University of Utah
Arnold Grossman, NYU (Applied Psychology program)

There are many more researchers studying gender roles, so if that interests you at all, it would open up several more slots. Also, I found many of these profs open to applying their work to sexual health and sexuality issues.

Also, if i recall correctly, there is a professor at Duke who studies obesity bias.

I wouldn't apply to work with Bailey.

Thoughts, no special order:
Iowa State - David Vogel
UF - Bonnie Moradi, Marty Heesacker
George Mason - Jonathan Mohr
Kimberly Balsam, not sure where she is now
UND - Michael Loewy, David Whitaker
Aaron Rochlen who is at.... I want to say Texas @ Austin
Roger Worthington at... Maryland I think?
Cirleen DeBlaere at Lehigh
Half the people at Indiana

kelly brownell does research on obesity. if you want to study attentional bias or whatnot you would have to apply to the social program. yale doesn't even touch sexual health or sexuality.

PM if you want my thoughts on Michael Bailey, I worked in his lab as an undergrad. (Northwestern = SPECTACULAR, at least my experience was.)

Also, professor at Duke studying obesity = Gary Bennett. Again, PM me if you want any more info.

Hey cort... after reading your post, I'm not so sure 'sexuality' and 'sexual health' are that specific! Are you talking about risk and resiliency for STIs? If so, any particular populations? HIV/AIDS risk, transmission, prevention? Community level or individual level intervention work? Or are you talking about individual attitudes, expectations, and beliefs toward sex and intimacy? And, sexuality meaning issues relating to sexual orientation (LGB issues) or something else? I'm not trying to be snarky here at all! Just thinking that you'll get better feedback about schools if you elaborate a little. Thinking more 'specifically' may also help you hone your personal statement, research interests, and increase your probability of finding a school that is a good fit for you (and them!).

I agree with leavingprov - those don't seem very specific at all. In fact, if anything they are probably more towards the side of "not specific enough". Assuming of course, they are separate issues. If you are interested in sexual health/sexuality in obese individuals, that is quite specific, but it doesn't sound like that is the case. There are lots of people who do research in these and related areas, but depending on your specific interests it may or may not fit within their research program

Dr. Ana Bridges at the University of Arkansas does research with sexuality and the affect of pornography use on relationships

I would look into ECU where I am completing my undergrad....Dr. Lutes and some others are always doing work in health psychology
