Hello all, I am currently thinking about my ranking list, and these are the two TX MD schools I am deciding how to rank. I interviewed with TTUHSC virtually and felt very positively about the school. I also just had my UTRGV interview, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked them, too. They also had a very strong match list this year. My main con for both of the schools is the location - wherever I go, there will be a lot of adjusting to do. I am leaning towards Lubbock because my family lives OOS and Lubbock has a direct flight to that city, whereas McAllen will be a guaranteed connection. As for specialities, I am undecided, but I am pretty interested in oncology or another internal medicine subspeciality.

Anyway, I guess I'm just looking for some insight and experiences that can help me make the best decision for myself. Oh also didn't mention that I prematched at TCOM - so how would I go about ranking that on my list?

Either of the first 2 will give you lots more opportunities for exposure to medical subspecialties than UTRGV.

If I rank TCOM third, does that mean that I'll lose the TCOM spot if I get into UTRGV?

Yes, if you match to a school that you ranked above your pre-match (TCOM) you will lose that prematch.
If you ranked TCOM as #3 but did not match to your #1 or #2 rank, you will still have TCOM.
