Tucom 2007!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Brenda, have you seen any surrounding apartments in the area? If so, how were they?

Hey glorytaker, too bad you don't have any more of the vintage transformers. I used to have many when I was little, but I played too rough with them, so they ended up broken. I work with a lot of children now and the ones they have don't hold anything over the ones of old!

glorytaker:
The "sports center" we're referring to is the one outside the big lecture hall (I think that's where it is anyway). I remember there not being much equipment in it, but we were told that people do actually go in there on occasion (sp?). I think most people use the gymnasium to play basketball.

About the transformers being a mood killer... not necessarily. Part of the attraction to my hubby was when we first met I was telling him a story about those little horses with tattooes on their butts and he laughed and said "you mean, my little pony?". 😍 It melted me right there that he remembered and knew what they were. Then we had an in depth conversation about cereal that we ate when we were kids. That's how I knew I loved him. We could talk for an hour about cereal.

Maybe some of you who are on this thread and are looking for roommates could be roommates with each other. Just a thought. Except for that weird guy who's still playing with his transformers. I'd stay away from him 😛 . jj, glorytaker.

Sorry for all the questions, just starting to think about what a day in the life might actually be like. I was wondering about the locker room, because I was wondering where we are going to be changing before lab. Sounds like it will be the strategically placed restrooms across the hall.

Happy Monday!

Hi Zippy,

Actually, glorytaker has the right sportscenter. The schools has its little gym, etc. But about 4 blocks from the school buildings is a sports center. It caught my attention because it looked big enough to house rock walls, batting cages or possibly an indoor soccer field. I assumed that it wasn't part of the school but I was interested to see if they had memberships or something.

Sorry, I was the one with the misunderstanding. I was asking about the little gym. So there's a little gym and then a big gym? Rock wall... hmmmm... good idea.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Cereal is by far the best food that exists!!! I am obssessed...in fact, I'm munching down a bowl presently. 😀

I've been told by multiple people to watch the show "Scrubs," and apparently there was an episode about building a locker room or something.....Dr.Zippy2b made me think of that🙂

glorytaker,
So these basketball games, are they open to all?!

Any idea how much the studios cost per month?

Yeah, kids these days are totally missing out....some of the kids I keep don't even know what MicroMachines are....poor things! :hardy:

Oh, I saw that episode of scrubs and all I can say is coed locker rooms!!

Hey Zippy, my daughter wants a Care Bear and Strawberry Shortcake doll. They sell My Little Ponies still at the toy store here in Healdsburg.😀

Did you know that the "Little People" toys are completely fake plastic pudges now!! I loved those little round headed, wooden bodied armless, legless toys. We had the barn, the firestation.......

And for those of us that must have toys as adults, my husband built a Battlebot (IT IS SO COOL). And if any of the current students at TUCOM are reading and want to volunteer this weekend, Battlebots has a high school/junior high national competition going on this next weekend on the MARE ISLAND and they need volunteers to help run the tournament. PM me for details if you want to volunteer.

As for housing, studios have been $500 in the past and I don't know of any good apts off-campus but I did see some townhouses and duplexes right across the island on Wilson Street and they didn't seem to bad. One of them had a for rent sign so I imagine many of them are rentals in the area and they are right across the Bridge so you would still have a 5 minute commute.

I had a Strawberry Shortcake collectible record when I was little. It was full color of her and her friends floating down a river (I think it was a river of strawberries, but I'm not sure if that's right). Remember the Care Bears movie. Now that was a good flick.

There have been tons of times when I've said "I wish we would have had those when I was a kid", but I really think we had much better toys. I remember wanting to be a cross between Sheera and Gem. I think I'd still like to be Sheera.

We have something better than coed locker rooms... we have OMM!!

supergirl71720: What I would give right this second for some peanut butter capt'n crunch.

hello all...just dropping a line to see how everyone is doing. I see some of the usual suspects with some new ones as well. I was wondering if anyone has gotten an academic calendar for our class yet. My fiance and I are trying to plan a wedding, but without dates....it's kind of tough. We will be traveling to the Vallejo area sometime this week or next, to look at off campus housing. I will share what we find out. I am currently living about 2.5 hours from tucom, somewhere in the valley. (my fiances parents house) Has anyone gotten any new info. from the school yet?

Kenny:
I haven't received anything yet. I think they were going to mail us info at the end of March, so maybe it's in the mail.
I talked to Steve Davis during the seminar at UC-Davis a few weeks back and he said to periodically check the website for the 2007 link and there will be information there.

Congrats on getting married.

OH, yeah and when are you coming into town? We are having dinner on the 7th and again on the 9th (I think). If you're interested, PM me your email address and I will forward you the email.

Zippy

Wow. All this talk about toys and cereal brings back memories and makes me hungry. When I was small, my sister and I used to play in our own world where Gem dolls, barbie dolls, new kid on the block dolls, transformers, and Rambo figures coexisted as happy families. Those were the good old innocent days.

Cereal, I could eat morning, noon, and night! Life, Frosted cheerios, Raisin bran, Corn Pops, Golden Grahams, etc...

p.s. Zippy, I still have the Care Bears movie on tape somewhere. I have a large video library and that was a good childhood movie.

p.s.s. Is anyone thinking of living off campus in an apartment in the surrounding area?

Cheerio, future classmates (in honor of our beloved cereal...should we make it our class mascot?)

SO WHO IS READY TO GET SOMETHING IN THE MAIL??!!! All this speculation.....it's starting to ail me! I really hope something comes this week. So far no 2007 addition to the webpage, but I'm sure it's coming soon too. I'll just practice my deep breathing exercises of patience in the meantime.

We should rent out a large house and shove all of us into it...you know, like a 24 hour "cafe/study lounge". Now THAT would be cool. Complete with a cereal bar, of course😀 .

Hey, I bet some of you are handy with tools.....wanna build a house?! Ha. At least that would solve the housing problem... and I can help with the roof:laugh: .

Anyone a fan of Jamba Juice smoothies?! I hear there's one in Vallejo.

All this talk about "lab clothes"....what color of scrubs do we get? There's green varieties and blue ones....maybe it's just me but I'm curious!🙂

~Teri

ps: deebee, I'm fully expecting you to provide the care bear movie for us to watch the night before our first big test. I can't think of a better calming therapy.

oh glorytaker, bring it on!!!!! If I may, I will speak for the entire class of 2007 when I say that the basketball title next year will be taken by the fishies!!! 😎 Even if I am one of the only gals on the court, basketball is basketball!

So, what about volleyball?!

(by the way, I'm really not an obnoxious competitive sports player....but ya gotta talk some sass, eh?!)😛

I just had something called Mud and Bug cereal this morning with Timon and Pumba on it???? It was a cross between cocoa puffs and Lucky Charms..... ahhh, Lucky Charms...... Now there is a cereal I could eat for every meal.

Can't I wear those really cool SpongeBob scrubs to lab???

For those of you that are really crawling up the walls for info, I spoke with Dr. Haight last week and he is in the process of sending out a letter. It is supposed to include when the listbot will be up for the class of 2007 and hopefully the housing info as well as any other goods that they can get into it for us.

And for those of you talking sports, GO A's!!!! Yes, opening night was almost a religious experience for me. WHOOOO!!! Give me a baseball bat any day!! I love this game.

My email addy is [email protected]
My AIM is Jimily143 we should all share aim so we can chat up...

I had Lucky Charms for breakfast this morning in honor of our cereal loving class. My house just sold so I am one step closer to the big move. The past few nights I have had dreams about finding out block tests were the next day and I had not prepared at all. I am very excited about becoming a doctor but I think as it gets closer I am getting more anxious. Anyone else having any of the same feelings? I picked up a copy of Iserson's Getting into a Residency. It has a quite a bit of helpful stuff, not just for residency selection but also some important things to consider as new students. I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Maybe our first get together could be a cereal pot-luck🙂.

Terra

Argh! I ran outta cereal and didn't realize it until this morning. I had to break open the top of my yo-crunch (you know the yogurt with the granola on top) in order to get my fix (just kidding). But my grapefruit this morning really left me wanting more. I definitely think we need to have a cereal pot luck! Lucky Charms are a good time. Cocoa Pebbles are good, too. If only for the fact that you get the bonus chocolate milk when you are finished with your cereal.

I want to play on the BBall team too! Hopefully the V-ball tourneys will pick back up. I'm not terribly good, but I like it anyway.

I read on the web site that our scrubs just have to be blue (any shade). It didn't say that they couldn't have pictures or anything. Do they really make Spongebob scrubs? I found a dalmatian stethoscope cover I really want online. (I know, that's a little much, but at least I would have a harder time losing it).

I really need to watch this Spongebob character. I was introduced to Bob the Builder last week. Kinda fun. But it can get really old really quick when you are watching the same DVD 50 times a day. (we are waiting to move into our new place and are living with a friend and her 3 yr-old son). I think I'm gonna buy the kid a new DVD tonight before I go home.

deebee: you are definitely going to have to have us over for a little Care Bear therapy before the first test.

tess: Congrats on selling the house! That is a big step! We sold our house in Feb and are waiting to move into the condo we bought. I understand about the nervousness. I'm just worry that the adcom was wrong and when I get there they're going to tell me that P. Zip is not on their list of acceptees. I don't think I'll really believe it until I actually put my booty in a chair on the first day of class.

Zippy

Wait a minute! Zippy, you mean to tell me you don't know about SPONGEBOB!! Ahhh!! You are so missing out. Squidward, Patrick, Sandy, and of course, Gary the Snail (Meoww!) I don't know how I could have gotten thru the last two years of chemistry with out Spongebob to space out with.

"Absorbant, and yellow and porous is he!"

If I can find a Spongebob DVD tonight then that's what I'm doing with the ankle-biter.

hello everybody,...... I just recieved a letter from touro university regarding my financial aid packet.. It say that I put in the wrong school code for my SAR therefore they cannot process my application... But I check with FAFSA and they told me I got the correct school code, so i m kinda lost now.. so please email me or reply with some help... Thanks

Jimily143, welcome aboard!!!

Tess, the cereal pot-luck idea is seriously the coolest thing I've heard all day.

DrZippy2b...no worries next year about running out of cereal because I have OCD when it comes to buying cereal and always have at least 4 extra boxes at any given time, so you can always hit up my kitchen. 🙂

Maysqrd, babysitting the other morning I was introduced to Mud and Bug...too funny.

So we provide our own scrubs? I'm trying to get a friend to sew some low rise ones for me 😎

DrZippy....if we have to, you and I will singlehandly start up our own volleyball league! And I'm glad to know you're up for bball.

glorytaker, I'm all for soccer too! (By the way, it's very classy of you to submit yourself to our tangents in order to answer our "questions." We'll invite you to our first cereal mixer in August🙂)

I hear ya about being excited but also a little anxious. I've wanted this for so long but now that it's a reality, it seems more like a dream. However, I just remind myself that we're all in this together, and if I can discuss care bears and cereal flavors with my soon-to-be fellow colleagues, then I'm headed for the right place....🙂

If I recall, glorytaker, you previously wrote:

"As for basketball, you don't need experience, skills, height or a set to play. All are welcome. "

So what's this prejudice against my teammate Dr.Zippy?! Do you have something against small people on the court? If so, then we're going to have issues! Haven't ya ever heard of speed and quickness as a desirable trait in an athlete?! 😎

Jimily143,

From TUCOM's website:

"TUCOM?S college code has changed from E00892 to 010142.

Don?t worry if you?ve completed the fafsa with the old code .... it?s okay."

Also, this monday, I and several SDNers will be having dinner in the Vallejo area to help prep an interviewee for big day... are you available??

Brian Enriquez

glorytaker: You just became my favorite upperclassman!!! If I weren't married...😍 .

OH yeah. Took the ankle-biter to Kay-bee toys last night and guess what they had?! CARE BEARS! I almost bought one.... Maybe I'll take him back tonight and get one... For him, of course.

Supergirl: You sound so fiesty. I think we are going to get along really well!!

I need to call the financial aid folks. Seems like up until Wednesday, I didn't really exist. When I got married I changed my name (from Zippy Pizzajuice to Zippy Nanabread) on all my paperwork/ids except for my Social Security Card. Oopsy, rookie mistake. My SAR came back as having all kinds of flags thrown on it because of the mistake. It says I'm not showing as a veteran and that my SSN doesn't match. Funny, I have lots of student loans that I've been paying off for the past few years. I bet if I stopped paying they'd know me. So I think I may have to take all my paperwork to the school. When I send my SAR back in I'm going to send in a copy of my new SS card with the right name and a copy of my AF ID card. Hopefully they will still give me $$.

Happy Friday to you all. Hopefully I can get hubby to watch the ankle-biter on Monday, if not, I'll definitely be there on Wednesday.

😀

No, we just happen to live with a 3-year old right now. The girl that we are staying with has the cutest little boy in the world. She works nights a few times a week, so I have been getting to watch him during the night. He's really a well behaved kid. Although, this experience has furthered my resolve to remain kid-free. (Don't get me wrong I love kids, I just love other people's kids.)

I think the info on the website is out of date. You must use the Touro College New York number which is 010142. If you use the old number I don't think it will work. I have had my packet finished for a while now and they sent me a letter stating that the financial aid award notifications will start being sent out towards the end of April. Hope that helps.

Brian, have we decided on a location for the dinners?? And thanks for the Birthday wishes, yes it was yesterday and I am officially 30!

Happy Birthday, Brenda!!

Dinners for next week:
Monday: Applebee's in Vallejo at 5:30pm

Wednesday: Outback Steakhouse at 5:30pm.

Hope to see you all there!

The Birthday went pretty well. I got a gift certificate for a deep tissue massage out of it and after last night's softball game, I am going to need it. DAMN IT WAS COLD!! It was freezing during our game but dpw86 is a slugger.

We made him learn to switch hit for our league and he nailed a few shots last night that impressed fellow teammates and so we decided to keep him.😀

BASBEBALL RULES!!

Wow! It's nice to see everyone's positive viewpoint on cereal. A cereal party would be unique. I think in my strict student budget I will have to switch to generic brands. Anyone tried marshmallow mateys? It's supposed to be like Lucky Charms.
(Who am I kidding? I can't give up the real thing IF it tastes better.)

Zippy I agree with you about the kid thing for now at least. Even when I get married someday. I love other people's kids. I've been in child care for about ten years now. Most of it is recreation. I'm a P.E. teacher and child care provider at a Montessori school. I work at the YMCA in some evening programs. I also run a program for special needs children, etc...

HEY EVERYONE!!!! lets give a little background history of ourselves. Such as the type of work we do and how we came to osteopathic medicine.

p.s. Brenda, living close to Oakland will give me a chance to see the Mariners come into town and pounce on the A's.

OH!! I don't think so. Keep up with the sports page deebee. We already took the Mariners for two to lead off the season and just kicked some serious Angels but with our #4 and 5 pitchers!!

If the Mariners hadn't of gotten an extra inning stroke of luck, Oakland would be 5-0 right now. Mulder, Hudson, Zito... absolute perfection! Tejada and Chavez, icing on the cake!

Hey everyone...Just wondering what night most of you are going to dinner. I am planning on coming into the area to look for places to live, and I would like to meet as many of you as possible. Have a good day....Ken

Hi Kenny, we are going to dinner tomorrow night and then again on Wednesday. See Dr. Zippy's above post.

Also, HOUSING info is on the website finally!! Yeah! Studios are $560 per month, dorms are $600, $700 or $800 for a single depending on how big of a room you want and $400, $450 and $500 for sharing a room. Townhouses are $544 per month.

You must bring you own furniture for the studios, etc. Make sure you read the housing handbook, it has some good info in it.

And, MONEY, financial aid started sending out awards. I got my letter yesterday and YEAH!! I can afford to go to med school!!

Marshmallow Mateys are AMAZING! I promise they taste sooo scrumptious. My brother and I lived off of them one summer. Definitely a thumbs up for Marshmellow Mateys!

Also, deebee has a great idea about each of us posting background information...I'm all about getting personal (by the time we see ourselves through medical school, we'll practically be family, so hey, why delay the inevitable?!). How do we want to start? Let's win the award for being the most unified class on this forum.

What about us trying to secure tickets for a pro sports game? Those are so much fun.

Zippy and deebee....would you believe I just had the conversation today with my roommate about how I love children but don't think I want any of my own, at least for a long while?! Ha. We must already be tuning into the same wavelengths:laugh: I really want the career for now. And I've definitely had my share of caring for children over the last few years.

So has anyone found off campus housing for less than $500 a month per person (and how many roommates are required?)

Brenda, happy belated birthday!!! (I believe b-day celebrations should extend at least a week)

~Teri

Last call for anyone flying into Oakland International tomorrow for a Tuesday interview at Touro! Save the money you would have spent on the Evans Shuttle and buy me a Double Double instead! (or donate it to the "Get Brian off a waitlist" Fund)

No Zippy at dinner tonight. I haven't been successful in getting the little one another sitter (and I used all my feminine persuasions, too😱 !). Hubby has a study date that he can't break. darn. But I will definitely be there on Wednesday.

In other news, yesterday was my double digit midget party, the day upon which I am official a short-timer. As of yesterday, I had 99 days remaining until I start terminal leave (although I will actually still be active duty for the first month of school).

More later, I am sure.

Happy Monday!
Z

Hey Zip,

That's too bad. I am actually bringing my daughter tonight. Applebees has crayons🙂

See you all tomorrow that are going.

Hey all. Hey Kenny I would like more info. regarding the housing that you checked out in Benecia. You can email me [email protected] or post it here. Thanks.

Hey guys, has anyone actually received housing info. in the mail yet?

Also, a friend of mine informed me that the Giants stadium is supposed to be the best in the nation or something...with the bay just over the outfield wall. I know maysqrd is all about the A's....what about the Giants? Is the stadium all it's cooked up to be?!

So far our class seems very 1) food driven and 2) exercise driven. Those are a very good combination! Do we really have to wait until August for all this to begin?!!!😀

~Teri

glorytaker:
Can you give us a quick weekly breakdown of how your first semester schedule was? So, what classes/time did you have each day.

Thanks!
Zippy

Haha, Zippy...that is too funny what you last posted because today I thought about the same thing and was going to post it tonight!

Does anyone know when orientation starts?
