Tucom 2007!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I hope this clears up the yahoo groups. For those that already subscribed earlier, we recieved an announcement asking us not to post from Julia Perhac as she doesn't have the list completely input yet and she wanted to make sure the entire class was entered before we started introducing ourselves, etc. After that email, additional emails were sent from some people that presumably didn't get Julia's earlier email, since they may not have been a member of the list yet.

I would imagine that they have temporarily blocked it until all students are entered into the listbot to prevent what I mentioned above. She mentioned that she was hoping to have the entire class entered by the end of the week.

Also, with respect to housing. For those of you that are coming in from out of the area to look for housing. I am an hour away from campus (and in a really nice area, wine tours galour!) but if you need to make a trip into the area to find housing but need to save some $$, please email me. I have a guest room and a pretty flexible schedule coming up after May 31st. Graduation!!! THANK GOD! I DON'T THINK I CAN TAKE ANOTHER WEEK OF P-CHEM!

Maysqrd, Are you going to be moving closer to campus once school starts?

I plan on looking for an apartment in the near area.

p.s. I think I posted a new thread when I supposed to do a reply to this thread!

I am getting on-campus housing for the school year and will be going home on the weekends. My house and neighborhood are way too nice to give up and relocate my family. Not to mention that my husband has a 2 minute commute to work and given his income bracket, he deserves a 2 minute commute.

Well Brenda that sounds like a good plan. As far as your location, which area are you in? I ask b/c you mentioned wineries. There are a lot of good ones here in Washington, and I was hoping to check some out in Northeren Cali. There's also a good baseball team here in Washington that's going to win the AL West this year.

p.s. Didn't you mention you had a little one earlier in this thread?

I have to mention this really funny joke and only a Mariners fan will get it. On opening night, the announcer at the game was announcing the starting line up for the visiting team and when he got to this one guy we didn't know who he was "Burt Boone"

Anyway, I am in Healdsburg. Quite a lovely little town. Check it out at www.healdsburg.org or www.healdsburg.com

Make sure to check the calender of events on the .org site and you can see why I love to live in this little town. You can get drunk just doing a wine tour around the down town square there are so many tasting rooms. Napa County is a lot of hype but the really good wines come from Sonoma County, has to do with the cooling trends in the evenings and how it affects the grapes, etc. etc. etc.

And yes, I do have a daughter. She is five and spunky and just like me only she's beautiful. Take a look:

People are still posting on the yahoo group. I received a message from the director of finacial aid yesterday. Brenda her is a picture of my little girl.

Justin, that picture is so cute. I love the little bow in her hair. You will love having a little girl, they are just adorable.

Thanks Brenda. She's already been a lot of fun.

Mine's just the internet connection. Because I log on at work (still waiting on getting the connection at the house since we just moved in Sunday), there are a lot of restricted sites that we can't get on. In fact, it even puts up this huge red ACCESS DENIED sign. (Kinda scary, you know, big brother is watching). Hopefully, I will be able to get in this weekend from a friend's computer at home. Maybe I'll get around to hooking up home connectivity at the house next week. Did you get the invitation email from Perhac? That seemed pretty straight forward, until I got the big red sign of death from Big Brother. 😱 I hate that darn sign. It always makes me think that they are going to bust in an arrest me on the spot.

On another note. We are in the midst of planning the extravagansa for the anniversary of my 25th birthday on the 31st of May. If you guys are going to be in town, I would love for you to come celebrate with me. (I think we are heading to SF for the night, more to come as it gets closer.) PM me with your email and I can add you to the invite list.

Glorytaker: Are you single by any chance?

I just looked at the photos. You two have the cutest girls!!

For those of you waiting by your mailboxes, starved for information, it is on the way. I got an update letter from the school today. It was mailed out yesterday and so for those of you that live farther from campus, you can expect it in the next few days.

Woo hoo that info. is on the way! Thanks for the heads up, Brenda! And congrats on the graduation that is coming! I know what an AWESOME feeling it is....my day to look oh-so-stylish in those amazing black caps and gowns (can we sense the sarcasm) is Sunday! I am leaving Monday for my trek from Virginia back to Texas. Time to bid the East Coast farewell for the time being.

Glorytaker.....as many answers as you have, I have questions! I'm just glad someone actually cares to answer them🙂 This one is going to seem rather odd, but do a lot of students have bikes? The island seems like an ideal place to go for a ride, but with a lot of rules (such as no pets) I didn't know if there was some ultimatum against the pedal-movers or not. ??

Dr. Zippy, I wish I could be there to celebrate your 25th with you! I'm definitely game for San Fran extravaganzas. Hopefully some of you will be up for occasional weekend visits to one of the coolest cities!🙂

The kiddies are precious. They will be our class mascots!

Ok, to give credit where credit is due.....a special bravo to deebee for starting this whole thread

It's an anniversary of my 25th. 😀 I have a sister who is 9 years older who stopped aging at 25. She's been 25 for a LONG LONG time now and she can still pull it off, so I figure I can't be older than her, right?!
When I actually turned 25, she called me and said "After all these years, I can't believe it! We are finally twins." So, we've been twins ever since. Her birthday is on the 24th of May and mine is on the 31st. I am headed home for Memorial Day weekend and we are having a big birthday party. I can't wait.
I haven't heard from them, I know FinAid has my correct address, I wonder if I forgot to tell admissions... Oops. Oh well. I am headed over to the school today anyway.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Zippy, I turned 25 back in March. I looked forward to it because that puts me in a better car insurance age bracket. It also doesn't help driving a Mustang...

Supergirl, I wanted to start a thread like this before class started so that MANY of us would already know each other farely well. We'll probably have good study groups later on and so forth.

Glorytaker, weren't you looking for off-campus housing? Have you found any good places? I don't plan on staying on-campus.
By the way, do you have any of the original transformers in your possesion? I wish I would have kept mine as collector's items. I would be cool to have Megatron and the original Optimus Prime since I enjoyed having them in my childhood.

The Class of 2007 link is up on the Touro website for all those who are interested.

Glorytaker, regarding housing, I would like to find a nice one bedroom somewhere in the surounding area, but if it came down to it, sharing a two bedroom apartment would be an option. Where are you living at currently?

Hello again Glorytaker, I have more questions.
🙂

Do you live on campus? If so, where? (I'm trying to figure out approx. utilities cost)

Do we get our books during orientation or before?

Do most students at Touro go to all classes or study on their own?

That's my list for tonight...Thanks for the answers as always!

~Teri

Glorytaker, no worries. I will be nothing but nice to you! (Unless you're the opponent in a basketball game😛 ). Your help is greatly appreciated.

I think the reason this thread seems dead is because everyone is busy with the yahoo group thing. But I'll do my best to keep it kickin'!

Best wishes finishing your tests. What a great feeling it must be.

~Teri

Glorytaker!
Sounds like you survived! Congratulations!!

Here're my questions:
1) How long does the avg TUCOMer put in studying (daily/weekly)?

2) When you started last year, did they credit your first semester with your $3K in deposits?

3) What's BMoC (sorry, I know, rooky question)

4) What do you wish you would have known last year at this time that you know now?

5) When do we start kicking you on the b-ball court?

Congratulations again. And thanks for hanging in there with us and answering all our ?s.

Nikki

"When you get a set. Why don't you stick with jogging? You don't need any balls to jog! Ok, that's really bad trash talking."

Hee hee. Sidebar: There was a situation at the base that I had to deal with and was pretty uncompromising about it. One of the guys that I had to work with came to my boss and said (with his greek accent) "Dat Lieutenant. She got steel ovaries."

Probably the best compliment I've ever gotten.

Since we will have neuro for one year, does that mean that it will be stretched out and not crammed all into a short time frame (and thus theoretically easier to manage)?

Hello all,

I've just finished my second year at Touro and am heading to rotaions. I feel that I need to say a word or two about one of the first now second years that you've been talking to, Glorytaker. I didn't know who this was at first then one of the first years inlightened me. It is not my norm to give advice, but on this subject I feel compeld.

Some of what I have to say is first hand and some is hear sya, so take it all with what ever confidence you feel is fitting. I have seen this individual interact with his class mates and frankly, he is without a sence of humor and a little on the rough side. Having talked to some of his former room mates, I'm not sure if you really want him as a roommate yourselves. I would email someone from the class below me (2006) to get better info, maybe you can ask the SG president when he emails your list serve. This is just a thought.

As for the emails to our gender from him, I would not entertain the option personally. I have heard from the first years that he has somewhat of a reputaions for being desperate.

I know this seems harsh, and to be fair he is from what I gather a good student, but I have seen him in action on the social front and think he needs a bit more polish and a lot more sense of humor. I do realize that he has given you some advise on matters, I would just get second opions. I would do this though no matter who I heard what from. The incosistancy at Touro is not to be underestamated.

Well, it was not my intention to bash Gloytaker, only to make you aware that all things are not always as they appear on the enternet.

Good luck to you, as I will not see you until the call back.

I've met Glorytaker at an applicant dinner and I think he has a good sense of humor. 🙂

I wouldn't judge someone based on friends' opinions until I get to know that individual. Often, people misinterpret shyness, fatigue, distrust or whatever for being unfriendly or stuck up---personal experience

😉

Glorytaker will find the right woman! 😀

Class of 2007, Please... whatever you do, do NOT call my psycho old roommate from my junior year, Carrie. 😀

Oh, and Glorytaker: We'll still be kicking you on the B-ball court, whether you are desperate and anti-social or not. Makes no difference to us.   😎

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend. I am flying home today for the first time in over two years and my sister and I are having a twin birthday party. And my Mom doesn't know. Can't wait to see her face.

Be safe this weekend.

-zippy

On another note:
Tess (Tara): Great meeting you and your hubby (was it shawn? I can't seem to remember now, too many names that night). Did you guys find a place?

First of all, to make the assumption that we don't know who glorytaker is, that was BAD! Many of us posting on this thread have actually met each other in person for dinner (sometimes more than once) and if you had read all the posts in this thread more carefully you would have realized that!

Second, I think that to publically post such attacking remarks under internet anonymity is reprehensible. If you feel that Glorytaker has somehow wronged us all by giving bad advice or by advertising that he is single, available and interesting in dating then why did you not go up to him at school and tell him so in person? You seem to know who he is but you do not know HIM.

Everyside has two stories and every situation requires level headed good sense judgement. If we do not have the capability of making those judgements and getting second opinions in response to the things that Glorytaker has posted then heaven help us all because we will never have the stuff that it takes to be good doctors.

Personally, I think Glorytaker has a great, demented, cynical, twisted kind of humour that you only find in very rare people (my husband being someone just like that). It takes someone that really listens to get most jokes and the jokes are usually superior to most people's intelligence so many would make the assumption that it was a lack of humour rather than a REALLY, REALLY good one!

The fact that Glorytaker is always willing to make a joke out of himself and especially about his "looking for a date" is the key to his entire personallity. He is willing to laugh at himself, how many of us are willing to do that?

I may have been a bit harsh on Glorytaker, but what I told you was the impression I had from others. I still stick to what I said about second opions though. You will get overwhelmed with rumors and gossip at Touro. And, you should check everything out for yourselves. I do understand that Glortaker has been a good resourse for you, but please still ask the SG president about any rumors that you may have heard before you jump to any conclutions. For instance, i know of no plans to lose Long Beach, Ca site, but we have lost the site in Las Vegas for now. To my knowledge the administration is trying to secure another hospital in Las Vegas right now. Hopefully it will happen if not then we shall see what the out come is.

Please ask the third years on our call back about the sites we rotate at, we are all willing to share information. Good luck to you all. I'm sure you're going to do fine.

As for Glorytaker, yes most of what I had heard was hearsay and i didnot talk to any of your old roommates about the acutual situation, but word does spread somewhat at a small school. I do hope that my impression is wrong and you are able to be light hearted with both your classmates and the classes that flank you. It is very very important not to burn ANY bridge. All of us will one day be your colleagues and you may one day have need of those who you have said you do not show your friendly side to. This is just advice, but if some view you as a tad unaprochable there may be some truth to the matter. However, i will give you the binifit of the doubt and hope that you at least see that we all must at some point be able to rely on one another both for support and friendship. Good Luck to you as well Glorytaker and remeber we are ALL in this together.

Hello everyone,

Congrats on your acceptance.

I just finished my first year and noticed
there's this whole hub of activity on
SDN. If any of you have any additional
questions about the school I'd be
happy to be a resource.

I live in berkeley and commute to the school , and I think that makes me blissfully unaware of at least some of the rumors. But I can tell you what life
at the school is like.
🙂

Man, Finally3rdYr and Glorytaker, you are a bunch of dorks.
And Glorytaker obviously I don't know you, but the way you put yourself on the defensive all the time makes you look like you are some sort of a wierdo. No offense!
And dude, its not that hard to find a girlfriend, anybody can get hooked up these days.

Damn, I feel guilty now.
Well I am sorry and I hope everything works out for you in Touro.

Looking for someone from this class - anybody out there that can help?

Would a helpful moderator put this in the Osteopathic forum as opposed to the pre-osteo forum.

Thanks,

JMC

This is the thread for graduating class of 2007, not those starting in fall 2007. the post dates are from 2003. Are you looking for those who are graduating this year or starting TUCOM this year?
