Still crickets? I really thought someone would hear something today...erg/frustrated emoticon.
Oh, and I'm from Norcal too, I live about 40 minutes from Vallejo (SF)

About 1 hour left, then another super long weekend.
 
I am applying for the 11-12 cycle. Did anyone from last year get interviewed when one of the recommendation letters was still pending?
 
Is it a required letter, like from a science faculty or something? Admissions committee's wont usually consider you for an interview until your file is complete. I'd say make sure you show your best side right from the get go and wait for your letter. As long as it doesn't push back your submission date to far. Applying early is important. Hope this helps.

The only thing i'm missing now is one of the science letters. I graduated from college 2 years ago and it's now impossible for me to ask for a letter from my past professors. Even though I'm going to school again in September, this won't get me a letter until December...So...I guess the question now is whether I can sub it with a work letter.

So if anybody has done that before please let me know. This will be a great reassurance for me.
 
Never heard of that. It probably depends on each school and their admission policies. Some of them will probably be willing to work with you if you let them know your situation.
 
I think that the best source of information is to call up Touro and ask the admissions department your questions. When I called they warned me about the mis-information on internet websites.

At this point my hopes of getting admitted from the medium alternate position are slipping away. I wish the message would come sooner. However, I did see some students were accepted in mid-late august in some of the older threads.

Attention Touro ADCOM:

Pick up the phone and give me a call soon. Tell me that I have been accepted. I will quickly send in my deposit and fly to California. Some students have been accepted at other schools, and they are waiting on the wait-lists at Touro to move so that they can make a decision about whether or not to take that acceptance. Some students are holding onto the hope that there is a ranking within the waiting lists and that their number will come up soon. Still, other students are thinking about applying for other programs now, because they think their chances of being selected from a wait-list at Touro are low (uncertain).

Please send another update soon. We could use some direction sooner rather than later, so that we can plan for the upcoming admissions cycle.

If you could speed up the "early accept" process, that would really benefit us the most.

The MSMHS program seems to be more successful at moving people into the COM program though because they actually take classes with the medical school students and they get to know the COM faculty. The MPH degree is more beneficial when you graduate though... hopefully.

Have people already received secondaries from Touro Mare Island?

I have been verified since July 5th and released to schools within a few days of that. Lots of secondaries came in right away but still nothing from Touro...my top choice 🙁

Anyone in this app cycle already get a secondary? If so, when did you submit?

Last year I got a paper secondary in the mail. It is, however, available on their website under admissions I think. You can print that one out and get a head start before you get the packet. They do a priliminary review, but as long as you have alright stats you should get their secondary. I didn't complete my application to Touro-CA until March and I still received an interview, so you are in good shape at this point. Good luck.

thanks for responding...so you are on the waitlist for this upcoming year? do you mind sharing your stats?

I've got a 3.4 and a 26 really hoping for an interview

You and me both, amburger... I said a while back that if Touro could just give me two weeks knowing that I'm accepted, I'd be willing to throw them a parade. I'm now amending that to just one week... Come on!!!!!
 
I know what you mean. I'm at the point where if they notify me even a day before orientation, I'd be as ecstatic as ever. It can't be healthy to be so on edge all day waiting for a phone call. The only time I get a break is from Friday afternoon to Monday morning.

I know! But those roughly 65 hours are agonizingly long!!!
 
This has gone from ridiculous to simply insane.... I am calling the office today to see if anything has changed. Otherwise I am signing my lease and starting school at LECOM... I will be in Pa in less then 12 hours. Good Luck to everyone!

Good luck with med school in LECOM. I really hope that your withdrawal can free up a spot for me. An acceptance would be life-changing.

Microscopegirl, so sorry to lose you! The alternate list at TUCOM is completely bewildering... But, it is clearly losing valuable applicants in the wait. Hopefully they call you in the next day or two... If you get any valuable info from admissions, do let us know! Good luck in PA!

good luck microscopegal. I have been following this page for a while. I am also on high waitlist and I am local but I just got accepted at Western and I really like that school so I will be pulling out from waitlist as well.
Good luck. I really hope everyone gets a seat.

Thanks. They called me on monday. I mailed them couple of LOI's since my interview in Dec. I would recommend calling them and mailing them LOI.

As far as TUCOM goes I did the same exact thing but no luck there but I am happy with Western.

So...isn't it crazy that no one who has been posting a lot to this site has been pulled off the high waitlist. Obviously people have been pulled and posted later, but no die hard posters have been pulled! Come on Touro!

On a side note, I attempted to call the admissions office today and the switchboard person told me they want emails instead so they can document who is calling...what? I didn't send an email...I was just going to try to fish for information.

I got the same message. At this point they don't want any questions via phone. They are only communicating via email.

Sounds like we're at that point. It's just up to whoever drops out or declines the offers to get us in. There doesn't seem to be much else we can do other than wait it out and hope for the best. Plus, they must be getting slammed with phone calls. Let's hope the next 10 days brings us all an acceptance!

I am in the accelerated MPH program (meaning I will apply for DO this year) Do you know much about this program? Is the matriculation rate higher for these students? Any response is much appreciated 😉

So I received another email letter about the schedule for orientation and how we will be notified if someone drops throughout orientation and no matter what we will leave with an acceptance letter for Class of 2016 if no spots open up.

He reinstated again that in most years past those on the stand-by list get into the class. There are tons of things to get for school last minute, but fin-aid graces those who get accepted last minute to pay fees and tuition as well as transcripts and medical paperwork.

Well if you guys do not hear anything next Friday I would apply again or go to the schools where you got accepted. Life is too short to stress over a school in the end of the day! 😎

You and me both. This thread seems to have gotten a little morose with all this time passing, but maybe things will really pick up this last week as spots open. I'm amazed how few of us SDNer high alternates have been pulled.
 
Really, nothing today?? Why did I get the impression from admissions that they "usually get through all the high waitlisters" when I haven't seen a single one on here get in. What the heck...? I'm seriously at a loss for what to feel or expect at this point. I mean, I'm here in CA and ready to go if I get the call, but the waiting is killing me. I've been waiting since late winter and still every day feels agonizingly long. Just want to get started with this process, and focus on it.

My one question is: are they pulling people from the medium list? I heard at least one on this forum was offered an alternate spot at orientation. I would be completely confused if I found out they were moving the medium list when so many high alternates hadn't been accounted for.

I feel like we are all hanging on a high-wire and a lot of us are dropping off due to fatigue or whatever. Has anyone gotten anything recently from admissions? Anything other than "You're on a waitlist, please continue waiting"?
 
Nothing here :/ As for the medium waitlist thing, I thought I remembered a post about someone from the medium list getting pulled for a standby spot, and then another medium WLer getting pulled directly into the class = sketchball. At this point I'm just praying for an early acceptance, which I highly doubt is coming my way after reading about amburger's experience...beginning the re-application process seems to be the only thing I can control at this point...I'm emailing DH today, I'll let you guys know if I hear anything news worthy.
Deadlywarbler - if it's any consolation, you're not alone! This is total agony for me too, I'm even starting to have nightmares...yikes.
