Hey everybody! So I have acceptances at the above schools except for AZCOM (decision pending) and I have to decide about deposits and what not. It seems to me that AZCOM and TUCOM have better match rates and board scores. I loved the location of TUCOM CA but the campus seems a bit neglected and the facilities are less than stellar.

PCOM GA and DCOM both seem like good schools and I like the student-faculty camaraderie, but the campuses, specifically DCOM, are kind of in the middle of nowhere. Additionally, they both are relatively new schools so I am a little worried about what will happen when applying to residencies.

I hope to be able to specialize (radiology, anesthesiology, orthopedic surgery, etc) and I plan on taking the USMLE as well as the COMLEX to hopefully give me a few more options, so it's very important to me that the school will help me be as competitive as possible.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

TUCOM ( Pending you're a CA resident)

There is no debate or discussion.

DCOM is obviously not a fit for you.

I'm not a CA resident - I'm actually from the southeast, but location isn't a huge issue for me. In fact, CA and AZ both appeal to me much more than staying in the southeast. I guess what scares me about TUCOM are many of the negative comments here at SDN about the residency match and lack of affiliated hospitals. Many of those comments were in the "Pros and Cons of your DO School" thread, however, I do realize these comments were made 3-4 years ago and that many changes have been made since then.

Have you read all the complaints about AZCOM's clerkships?

All I know is that I spoke with several graduates of Touro CA and all of them told me not to attend there. I don't know much about it except that many of the students I have spoken with are unhappy and the admissions office was extremely rude and military unfriendly when I spoke with them. Consequently I turned down my interview invite there and if it was me I would only attend there as a last result.

ITT: Don't go to DO school

I am going to attend TUCOM CA next year. I did not apply to your other schools on your list, so I can't give you a fair comparison. However, TUCOM has a small class size (130 students). The faculty seems very dedicated and the students have told me that they are very available to help. Another reason, I chose this school is because I hope to do my residence somewhere on the west coast.

The downside is that TUCOM has been associated with bad rotations. I do not know how much of this is true. But in 2010, they got a new Dean of Clinical Education (JC Buller). Since then, I had heard the students generally get their 1st or 2nd choice.
