TUCOM - NV Discussion thread 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello, I will be interviewing at TUCOM on Monday the 25th. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.

Just put my $2k deposit down. Wooo that feels good!

Does anyone know how the housing process works? Like, when do all the first years begin looking for roommates and stuff? When do we get to access the school's network thing? Do most non-married first years at TUCOM-NV end up in a housing situation with other TUCOM students or do most live alone? I've already researched and visited some apartments near the school and it would seem WAY cheaper to have at least one house-mate.

Out of curiosity, wouldn't it cost a bit more when you start doing rotations and the traveling to other states for this? From posts on others threads students talk about spending a fortune moving every month. I am new to all this and have no clear idea how this all works. Also, does TUNCOM have all of its rotations in the LV area?

Thanks

It may cost a little bit more, BUT the school has enough rotation sites here in LV that you will not need to travel more than a few miles. If you want to do your electives in another city, then it will obviously cost more, but that would be your option and thus, your expense.

Hank,
I am heading down there mid march. Is the school going to be on break at anytime? I would hate to come down for a visit and its closed for something. Thanks

Spring break is Monday, March 24th until Friday, March 28th. I would imagine that many students will be gone on Friday, March 21st and won't be back until Monday, March 31st or even Tuesday, April 1st.

Thank you for the heads up. That was the week I was heading down. Maybe i will head down a day or two early.
Again thanks

we will be having our block tests during this period, so don't be alarmed if you don't see people in lecture. Also don't be alarmed by our attitudes, as it has been a long year and spring break can not come quick enough..... e.g. we will probably be a grouchy group.

Hello everyone. I have my interview at TUNV on March 11th. When I spoke to Mr. Corbman at the end of January (when i scheduled my interview) he said they had 85 spots filled out of 134. Anyone who interviewed recently know how many spots are left? What hanky1982 said (about interviewing in March and still getting in) is somewhat relieving, however I'm a little concerned. Btw, anyone interviewing on March 11th?

Dr76 I'm interviewing the 11th as well. When I talked to Roger on Feb 21, he said 95 spots were filled.

I am also interviewing on the 11th. I hope to see you guys there.

Hi Folks!

I'm interviewing on 3/3 at TUNCOM! It's my first choice school so am really excited. Anyone interviewing then and want to meet up the night before for dinner? I'm staying at the Fiesta hotel (flying in early to play some blackjack!!)

Roselee
I'm interviewing on the 3rd too! And just happen to be staying at the Fiesta as well! I tried to book at the other listed hotels first, but the operators weren't hearing any of the "corporate rate." Anyway, if you're still headed for NV, I'd be up for not eating dinner by my lonesome 🙂

I just cancelled my interview here. I do hope they ask somebody in my spot and best of luck to the Class of 2012 there in Vegas. This was a super hard decision to cancel. I would have loved the chance to live in Vegas!!:luck:

THAT LOOKS AWESOME!

Not really...I think most wanted to go back to where they previously lived or just wanted to go elsewhere. As far as primary care, there appears to be many spots between UMC and Valley. The specialties is what lacks here.

That's an impressive matchlist for the first class. Hopkins IM? 👍

Got accepted a week ago! Looking into buying a place in Henderson. Anyone familiar with the process would like to share their experience? Have any tips?

hey, just curious does anybody know how many spots are still left for this year???
I have an interview this tuesday and was wondering just how against me the actual numbers are 😕

I'd like to know about this as well. Any deals on foreclosed homes?

I am on the waiting list and hoping for the best.🙁:luck:

we were told that there are 15 spots left. good luck!

So how did the interview go? Any good news?

I think it went ok....although I feel like I always think the interviews go ok and then i end up getting waitlisted absolutely everywhere i interview at....quite frustrating....
Roger said there are like 15 spots left, and they're meeting this week. I should know my fate by Friday afternoon.
Keepin those fingers crossed!
Oh, and the last interview date is APRIL 29th.
May 15th is when they start looking at waitlists.

I believe I interviewed with you MissMammele. 😛 Yeah Roger told us there are only about 15 spots left and they won't start looking at it until they finish interviewing. Good luck to everyone!

Good luck to all. If you end up getting waitlisted, just send in a LOI and keep in touch with the school. I think that really helped my chances of getting in last year. The school pulls people off the waitlist until the first day of class.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!

Hi and congrats to all of you guys who got in. And if you haven't don't give up hope. I interviewed very late last year and then was wait listed. YET HERE I AM. The school is great. It has its share of problems but all in all it is a great place to learn medicine.

As far as housing I would recommend looking right close to school. There are tons of places to buy and rent. My wife and I live in a town home about a half a mile from school. The two zip codes close to school are 89074 and 89014. You can check out this web site for an MLS listing http://www.bartaustin.com/lasvegas/choose-bart-index.html
You can look at rentals or to buy. If you have any more questions send me a message.
