TUCOM NV Discussion Thread 2010-2011

When I called and spoke to admissions she said my file would be reviewed within 30 days of it being complete. Have people been getting decisions for interviews within thirty days, or if they don't select you for an interview in those thirty days do they hang on to your file and review it again later? Basically has anyone been rejected pre-interview?

When I found out my file was complete (on a monday), I was notified that Thursday of an interview. This was also in August, so they might have more files to review right now. If 30 days have gone by, maybe try sending a letter with updates if you're strongly interested in the school. If you just became complete, then be patient.. because I'm sure they will be looking at it soon 🙂 Remember, with so many holidays and finals.. I imagine all processes will be delayed. Keep your head up!

KCUMB vs TOURO-NV....what do you all think?

That's a decision only you can make. Have you visited both schools? What factors are important to you? How do they both measure up when you look at those factors?

One thing to keep in mind, no one can give you a fully accurate comparison unless they've actually attended both schools, which isn't going to happen. I love Touro, but since it's the only med school I've attended, I can't make a legitimate comparison to another school.

accepted via phone call =) interview 2 weeks ago

I was accepted yesterday, as well. Interviewed 12/6. Thank goodness I got the notification BEFORE my NSU deposit was due! I prefer the location of Tuoro and I really clicked with all of the faculty/staff I met. 🙂

(For anyone who is wondering, my stats are 3.5, 30S)

Congratulations to everyone else who was accepted!

Congrats. Join up on the facebook group and the class thread in the osteo forum.

Congratulations to all the newly accepted students! The hard part is over (that's what "they" say anyway - not really sure who "they" are but you know...)! Relax and feel free to ask any questions you have about "what next?" either here or on the Facebook page (Touro University - Nevada COM 2015). I look forward to meeting all of you next year!

Hi guys, I got placed on high waitlist....does anybody know how the ranking goes for that specific waitlist? I'm a bit stressed out because this is the primary school I wish to attend. If it helps, I am a local applicant who graduated from UNLV last May.

Also, I'd like to thank all the current Touro Students that are answering questions. I know its Finals week and you guys are crazy stressed so the advice you guys are offering is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

I found out today that I was placed on the high waitlist too. I'm really sad because I liked the school and all the faculty I met. They told my interview group that in the last three years they have accepted most, if not all, of the students from the high wait list group. I am crossing my fingers! It's finals week for us too so I better stop procrastinating.

So obviously it's not a guarantee, but being on the high wait list is a good place to be. They definitely move through the high wait list. I don't know specifically how far through it, but try to be patient...and make sure you watch for the phone call from a (702) area code. I believe you have 2 days after the phone call to respond. Congrats on making it this far. 🙂 Good luck on finals!

I read in an old touro calendar that DO classes start July 1. Is this still true?

oh wait- it looks like that is just for years III and IV

School will likely start Aug 1 for you guys. Normally the first 2 and a half days are orientation with classes starting Wednesday afternoon - but that is always subject to change.

Just got an interview invite today!!! This makes me feel much better after such a long period of silence from other schools!!!!! My dates available were the 2nd or 14th of February. I picked the 14th. WAHOOO!!!!

I just received an interview invite also. I actually cancelled my interviews at DMU and TUCOM-CA after getting into Western. Should I interview at Touro-NV? Can anyone provide some links to SDN reviews of this school written by medical students from there?

Thank you! I hope finals went well for you too and now we get a break! 🙂 I'm waiting for one more professor to submit my grade and then I will be forwarding this semester's grades to Touro. Hopefully, all the A's this semester will help. Enjoy your time off!

Hey guys, I got accepted here on 12/13 but have declined my offer...best wishes to the applicant who receives the good news in my place! 🙂

got a interview invite to TUCOM-NV!

though since my gpa and mcat weren't all too impressive and so many people are getting waitlisted, i'm pretty unsure about my chances...

what do you do (or other students do) in their free time

Interviewing here soon and want to get opinions from current students

Well, last year they didn't accept anyone from the high wait list and didn't get all the way through the accepted wait list even. In the years prior to that, I think they accepted about half of the students on the high wait list, but I may be wrong. However, every year is entirely different, and there have been a few already accepted from the high wait list this year. Your chances are good in that you are wait listed so early in the year, meaning if they have declined offers from the subsequent interviewees, they look to the wait list. Hang in there, and I hope you hear good news soon. =)

I don't understand the bolded portion. What do you mean by "accepted wait-list"? My understanding is that students are either accepted, rejected, or put on a waitlist that can be broken down into "high, medium, and low". I don't understand what you mean when you say they "didn't get all the way through the accepted wait-list". What is the accepted wait list?

I think I posted about this a few pages back, but I'll do a synopsis.

For the 2007-2008 application cycle and the 2008-2009 cycle, they went through like 90 people on the wait list (to fill like 50 spots). Last year, they went through somewhere around 15. It's really impossible to say what will happen. If you are on the middle or low wait lists, your chances are not good at all. If you are on the high wait list, your chances may or may not be good, depending on a lot of different factors. Just make sure to keep in touch with the school as time goes by, to let them know you're definitely interested.

I am confused too. On November 11th you posted this (above) and so I'm not sure why you say that last year they took around 15 from the high waitlist but then yesterday you posted that last year they did not accept anyone from the high waitlist. I interviewed on December 6th and the admissions counselor told my group that in the past three years they have taken the majority, if not everyone, from the high waitlist. I also called the same counselor on December 14th and he said the same thing. He also said that the waitlist is broken down into high, medium, and low divisions (obviously 🙂 ) and that each student is ranked in their respective lists. Additionally, he told my group that they have what I think he called a "deferred list." That they accept two students for this list and that they are to come to orientation in August. If an accepted student does not come to orientation, or God forbid something happens, that these two students will take their spots. However, if these "deferred" students are not taken, they are guarenteed spots for the following year. I am just repeating what my group was told, and then again what I was told, a week later. I think we all need to be optimistic and know that everything works out how it should in the end. 🙂

if it puts anyone's mind at ease, I was accepted this year off the high wait list. From what I understand, they pull people off the high wait list after the 2 week deadline hit for the people with acceptances to put down their deposit. I didn't think I'd have a chance, but then I got the call. So if you're in that situation, stay patient at least for a few weeks. Good luck!

Let me try to help clear up some confusion. Last year there were some extenuating circumstances that required us to create an "accepted waitlist." It happened very late in the cycle and is something we aren't anticipating to happen again.
In addition, we actually did make it through the entire accepted waitlist and through a majority of the high waitlist. Again - this happened at the end of the admissions cycle. If you have already applied and interviewed at this point, and are sitting on the high waitlist - you are in a good position. Obviously it's not a guarantee, but as far as waitlists go, you're doing good. Please be patient. Since it is "rolling admissions," students from the high waitlist will be called throughout the process. Please be patient and let the system work.
One final note, please realize that if something gets said on here, it is most definitely NOT official Touro information unless it comes directly from Taylor or Oscar in the Admissions department. If you have a question about something, please please please, call the Touro Admissions Department and get that answered as soon as possible. SDN is really for student input and opinion about how the school is, but any opinions or information about how a process actually works should be taken with a grain of salt.
I hope this helps put your mind at ease. If not, please feel free to private message me and I can see what I can do to help further.

Sorry for the confusion guys. I don't believe there is an accepted wait list this year. But I do know of a few people who say they were on the accepted wait list (above the high WL) that were not accepted from it last year and re applied this year so I find it hard to believe they got through the whole thing, much less the high wait list as well (you'll see on last year's thread that this is the case). But they've already accepted people from the high WL this year, and I know they continue to do so throughout the cycle. If you want more info on being on the WL, read last year's thread or the year before that - they both spell out how many people were wait listed and when they were accepted, etc. For personal experience, I was on the accepted wait list and was accepted July 8th. However, I didn't even submit my secondary until January and interviewed on one of the last interview days in mid-March.

I didn't mean to alarm anyone. I think if you are on the high WL right now, you have a good chance of being accepted, but there are never guarantees. If you have new grades, etc. be sure to send the school an update letter. And of course, anything official has to come from the school, not anyone on here (myself included), but I would imagine you guys know that. =)

I was accepted to Touro-NV this last week and will be attending! SOOOO stoked to be FINALLY studying what I want to study. Looking foward to meeting you all!

Congratulations! Were you initially waitlisted by any chance?

Just withdrew my app and canceled my interview...hopefully that helps one of you...good luck!!!

I'm a 4th year at TUNV, and will be graduating in 4 months (wow, 4 years goes by fast!). I will be more than willing to answer any questions you guys might have about the school, rotations, housing, books, OMM, etc. Also, I will be looking to rent my house (3 bedroom 2.5 bath, granite counter-tops, tile, 2 gar garage, in a quiet gated community only 1.5 miles from school). Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions (or reservations about the school) or are also interested in renting my house during your 4 years. Good luck to you all.

Interview invite 01/06/2011!! Will be attending the PM interview on 02/14/2011! Anyone else?

Anyone here interviewing on Tuesday? Looking forward to an interview just one state away!

I withdrew from my Tuesday interview. Good luck everyone!

Any rejections here or is everyone not interviewing being put on "hold"?

Hey, I interviewed yesterday (AM group) and forgot if they said they were meeting on the 21st or 28th to make decisions. Does anyone remember?

Anyone interviewing on 1/24. I was on hold, and then recieved a last minute invite. I'm wondering what type of ethics questions may come up in the interview. Would it be wise to take a side on the healthcare reform issue, or stay neutral. Any thoughts or feedback will be appreciated!

They only asked vaguely about reform in my interview. They asked what I thought about the reform and then the biggest problem with our system.

Well, I was asked: What do you know about Osteopathic Medicine? Why Touro NV? Then a bunch of questions about my volunteer / employment history. I didn’t get any ethics questions, but TUNV mission is intellectual pursuit, service to humanity and commitment to social justice. Take what ever side of health care reform that you believe in, but make sure you can justify Touro’s ideals within your argument.

Nothing. They asked alot from my application -stuff from personal statement, research.
Why med, why DO, why NV.
My weakness, my fav class.
Do I have any exposure to socialized medicine?
Whatever you say just be able to backup your ans. It is quite relaxing but they do ask folloup questions.
