TUCOM NV Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wow! Accepted! But I think I will be giving up my spot to attend WVSOM.... i hope one of my fellow sdners gets it! 🙂

Hi jasmine, yes! I'm also still waiting! I'm planning on calling tomorrow if it's not in the mail.

I interviewed on the 24th and live in MN and got my letter of acceptance yesterday. I would definitely call tomorrow if I were you! Best of luck!

Hi avocado lover and agh85..thanks for replying. At least I know I'm not the only one waiting. I called Admissions to confirm my mailing address and it was correct. I guess snail mail is extra slow these days. If we don't receive our letters by tomorrow, they said they'll mail another letter out.

I didn't receive my letter in the mail so the admissions office emailed it to me. Accepted so happy!!!!!! 😍😍

Congratulations to all the newly accepted students!! I am a second year here, so please feel free to PM any questions. I also want to encourage all of you to join the TUNCOM 2015 Facebook page. Here is the link: http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=133543779996974

You can also ask any questions you might have there - there are a lot of current students who are also members of the page and can give any advice needed.

Congrats again! Good luck to those of you getting ready to interview. 🙂

hey I have a question for current TUNV students. would you say the location of the campus has afforded you learned opportunities unique to the greater Las Vegas area? How so? Any feedback would be great 🙂

My Interview is tomorrow PM and I am really excited, with a tad bit of nervousness. I am really glad that I'll be able to sleep in. Anyone else going to be there?

i'll be there for the evening interview today. hope to see you there and good luck!

Think twice before attending the MHS program that they offer. Just sayin' in case anyone was thinking about doing so.

I was thinking about applying.. Can you elaborate on why you think people should think twice? Is it a bad program? Feel free to pm me if you prefer. Thanks!

I just want to mention that the people I know who have been in the MHS program liked it, and they either were glad to come to Touro the following year for the DO program (those who were in it last year) or are excited about being able to come back next year for it. I'm not sure if "The Grudge" was rejected/waitlisted and is resentful about that (their name makes me wary of their reasons), but the MHS program is not a for-sure acceptance to Touro's DO school. You still need to apply and interview with all other applicants.

so I interviewed last wednesday and haven't yet mailed out thank you letters. i'm thinking about going ahead and sending them out tomorrow but would that be in bad taste since it's almost been a week since my interview?

I don't think it's too late. Better late than never. I'm a big proponent of thank you letters (just in general, not just for interviews).

Congrats to the newly accepted students! Feel free as always to PM me with questions.

And to those who were rejected (if you still read this) -- do not get discouraged. There are so many factors that go into a decision. Do not take it as a personal failure. Medical school admissions are really a crap shoot ... every year there are students with fantastic applications who are not accepted and there are less than spectacular students who are accepted. Try to figure out any way that you can improve your application for next year (if you are not accepted anywhere) and try again.

And waitlisters -- stay patient. I know the feeling of waiting ... it sucks. But stay hopeful and keep in contact with admissions frequently.

Got the acceptance call yesterday, I interviewed on Feb 2. I will be most likely giving up my spot to attend ATSU-SOMA or MSUCOM. Best of luck to those of you who are waiting to hear back, and I hope one of you gets my spot!

Got an acceptance call yesterday and my letter today. Interviewed Feb 14 PM.
C/O 2015!!! =D

I just got an interview invite!!! But I am going to turn it down because I already got into my top DO school (outside of Texas of course)... 🙂 Hope it goes to someone that needs it!

For those of you wondering, they put my application on hold last semester, so if you are on hold, you still have a chance! I have a 2.9 science and overall GPA, 3.65 graduate GPA and a 27Q MCAT...

The wait for the letter is so agonizing 🙁

i'm not too hopeful as far acceptance goes for this cycle but still...i'd like to know for sure!

Good luck everyone.

Whats up Guek! How was your time in Vegas?
As I remember them saying, the admissions committee convenes on march 7th, just so you can gauge the wait and not think that they made a decision already. GL :luck:

So... it feels like this tread is kind of dying since it's nearing the end of the admission cycle but I just received my interview invite and will be interviewing March 14th PM session and I'm kind of freaking out. TouroNV is my top and (to be honest) ONLY choice... Is anyone else interviewing that day? Does anyone know how full the class is at this point? I've been rejected post secondary 🙁 by my other choices so Touro is kind of my last bet (I'm beginning to think that I kind of suck).

this is definitely just hearsay but i think they're a bit over 2/3 full. i've been told though that touro takes a ton of students off the high waitlist every year. what are your stats if you don't mind me asking? i interviewed at the end of february and really i'm not too hopeful either.

It was alright. I went out that night and lost about a hundred bucks on the tables though >_<

I hope my luck with the committee is a bit better! I thought they said they were going to meet on the 8th though, not the 7th. Either way, we'll most likely hear something back this week. I hope...

When did you complete your secondary? I completed mine at the end of January and am still waiting to hear anything...

i graduated in 2006 with a BA in biology before going into nursing.

my aacomas gpa is 3.09 or something with a science gpa of 2.9 (i can't seem to find the actual numbers anywhere); post-bac nursing gpa was 3.97. i did (obviously) abysmally in undergrad.

mcat scores: 22-O in 2006 and 27-O in 2010

i have a little over 2 years of clinical nursing experience, worked extensively with a student org called dance marathon during undergrad, volunteered with an org that did therapeutic horseback riding for kids and adults with developmental and mental disabilities, did big brothers/big sisters and worked pretty much full time to put myself through school... i just moved to las vegas last year. since moving here, i work approximately 55 hours a week as a manager and admissions nurse at a long term care facility. in what little free time i manage to find, i'm taking biochem, do yoga, and skydive (seriously).

my professional aspiration is to be a primary internal med doc with a specialty in geriatrics.

besides my undergrad gpa, i can't seem to think of any reason why i wouldn't be a good fit but that doesn't seem to matter....

i completed my secondary mid-january.

Mid-January is very late in the application cycle. If you do not get in this time around, look to have everything submitted and ready no later than August. I was in the first group of interviews at TUCOM and that was the second to last week in September.

Just got an interview invite for Monday March 14th AM session. Guess I'll hit the interview feedback section now. Any advice?? Thanks

know your application, including your personal statement, inside and out, because they ask a lot of questions from your file.

so i'm assuming no one heard back today about the feb 23rd interviews?

I also interviewed on Feb 23rd (AM session), haven't heard anything yet (I think one of the previous posts said the ADCOM was mtg 3/7 or 3/8). Good luck :luck:

I also interviewed on the 23rd (PM session) and have not heard anything. I just called the admissions office and the woman I spoke to said that the admissions committee met on 3/7. She said that the Deans have to meet sometime this week and review the decision. I guess a final decision will be made by Friday...so it can be any day now! :xf:

Does anyone know if we are going to get a letter, an email, or a phone call? They said it would be a letter during the interview session, but I saw that a lot of SDNers have been getting phone calls??

Interviewed 2/23 PM. Accepted!! Just got the phone call from Taylor minutes ago. He said that letters went out Tuesday.

I just got an acceptance call too.

I...I can't believe it. I honestly can't believe it.

I'm going to be a doctor.

Thank you! This was my third application cycle too!
Yes, I'm in San Diego. Where are you from?

I am withdrawing from Touro. Got accepted to my first choice. Someone can snatch up my spot! Interviewed 1/18 got the acceptance letter 2/10. Good luck to all you future physicians!!

P.S. I know it's been said already, but I wrote an email saying I couldn't afford the $2000 up front and sent in $500 saying when I would be sending the rest and they approved it. But, I had to talk to the admissions counselor first. Now I'm getting $400 back.

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted recently!

When is everyone moving down to Henderson? We should try and meet up for drinks/dinner/something before orientation!

I can't wait to meet everyone and start med school!

Anyone from Touro-NV MHS program? Applied to this program? Thank you!

I'd be interested! But don't they do a drug/alcohol test prior to the beginning of the year?

Oh, I'm sure Touro doesn't have a problem with people over the age of 21 going for a drink off campus on their own time. I assume the issue is with being intoxicated on campus.

When will you be getting into Henderson? I'm hoping to be there mid-July, but we'll see how my travel plans shake out.

Had my interview today. AM session. Was not as bad as I thought it would be. Anyone else interview today???
